I saw on the news today that a 97 year old lady is taking Hollywood by storm - she started a showbusiness career four years ago and has now several movies to her credit! I think this is absolutely great! What are your opinions and would you have the gumption to do the same?

I would! How does one go about getting there though? I want to act - have taught Performing Arts and am now retired!

How about setting up an organisation for the over 50s where we can all assist each other in reaching that ultimate employment goal?

Don't think you are a waster Dave! Put it down to life's experience - you are probably a better man for it all! More understanding than most! Good on you!

Your never too old for anything, people graduate from collage in their eighty's. There was a guy on Archie Bunker who didn't start acting until he was in his eighty's, and there were some women who did commercials in their eighty's. Look at Ronald Reagen how old was he when he became president !!!You have to get yourself an agent, he'll be the one to get you jobs, if your good enough or have the look that they want your in. Sometimes it's just being at the right place at the right time. I wouldn't want it because it's not in me to do so. I'd rather be a good musician. Good luck, I hope you succeed.

I changed career at 35, so although I cant compete with a 97 yr old at the moment I may change further down the line. You only have one life so I believe you should cram in as much as you can. I would love to act too, infact my dream job is to act on River City (scottish soap opera) or Eastenders (English soap opera). I see that happenning when Im 40-45. Then I might become an interior designer from 45-55. From 55 I might become a lecturer, either in nursing, acting or interior design. At 65 I will retire and live somewhere hot running a small hotel. Well heres hoping!!

I have tried to get into other fields of work in London but I am getting nowhere. I can't get a job on the experience I have now and I can't get one in any other field. In fact, I am lucky to get any reply, even a refusal. Good for the 97 year old. I hope she lives to be very very old and continue to stand up for us older people. It just goes to show that oldies can still hand it out to the young. By the way I am 56 and I feel like nobody wants me. At least not in England.

I spent 30 years with the RAF and 10 years with a middle east air force as an electrical engineer. 7 years ago at 56 I became a care worker. No you are never too old to change career.

You are never too old to change careers. Now that you are retired, I'm guessing some of your worries, stresses are lower.(Kids are grown, school is over, mortgage is paid, you're not worried about what others think of you etc.). Do now what you have wanted to do. Whats the worst that could happen?? Don't you owe it to yourself to see how far you can get? Decide where you want to live,go there and contact a local theater or college and re-start your life! Good Luck!

Absolutely not! That's a great story, and inspirational. You are never to old to do something you truly want to do for work OR pleasure.
