I am an atheist but i find the idea of the virgin mary concept in Catholicism to be actually very enlightening. In a world where God is always been looked upon as a male , i find the idea of mother mary says that God could be a female, mother and wife too

what do you think?

Sorry to disappoint you, but nowhere in Catholicism is it taught or implied that Mary is somehow God or a god.

Cheers :-)

in catholicism mary was spoken to by an angel who told she was to have a baby, a baby that would be god's son, but when she became pregnant she as still a virgin, that is why she is called the virgin mother not because she is ever implied to be god.
I think that most people picture god as a male because jesus was god on earth and if he was god on earth, than god must be a man or because humans were created in gods image and adam was the 1st human according to the bible.
Most other people believe that god is neither man n
Well this is what they want us to beleive, not that i no whther to believe or not anymore.....

I'm an atheist too, but I was raised Catholic, and when I still practiced, I prayed to Mary all the time. I guess because she's a woman, I can identify with her better. I don't know. I asked my mum, too, and she says she always prays to Mary as well-- more than she prays to God or Jesus. Maybe if there were more female religious figures to look up to, I'd have hung in there a little bit longer.

Hinduism believes in the dual divinity of God. Shiva is nothing without Parvati. Rama is nothing without Sita. Krishna is nothing without Radha.
Durga Ma is more powerful than any male Deity.

I am a former Catholic (now a happily devout Hindu) and there is nothing that suggests Mary to be God/dess. She is merely a "go-between" for devotees to her son.

No, no relevance. All Christians should believe Mother Mary was a virgin, it's in the Bible.

She is not considered as 'god'. That would be blasphemous on the part of the church, as it would be goddess worship! But she is supposedly 'venerated' according to catholics I know, as she is the one who gave birth to Jesus, and she is seen as one of the highest ranking saints that catholics also venerate. These saints are thought to be so close to god that they act as a medium between man and god, so thats why they pray to them. Their ideology is that praying to these saints, but especially the Virgin Mary will help intercede these prayers for them to god himself.

I agree with you whole heartedly. "God" is just as likely to be female as male if he/she existed. I think you are probably making the point that man and woman are and should be equal in everyones eyes and in that you are correct.

no... she accepted a command from God to bear His son threw no conception, that is why she was called the Virgin mother. Sometimes Catholics blow it out of preportion because after Jesus was born. threw conseption she did have James.
