I will answer in general, not referring to the movie scene. We have two people of the opposite sex, who have known each other long enough to become close friends; they may or may not have romantic feelings for each other; and one or both of them is engaged or married. A kiss in this situation is not taboo; neither is it a commonplace, expected action. The kisser probably wants to show significant feeling, as a father, mother, or sibling would, for the person kissed. The kiss might be completely platonic, but probably expressed at least a tiny amount of romantic affection. The maturity of all the people involved needs to be considered, as does the era when the kiss occurred, and the location on the body of the kiss, and its duration. If we were talking about mature, older people, in modern times, a woman might give a man a brief kiss on the lips, or a hug and longer kiss on the cheek, and think nothing of it, even if her husband and his wife were both there watching, provided everyone was in a stable relationship. Fifty years ago, this would likely be a little too much. A kiss on the hand might be more appropriate, as it indicates more restraint on the part of the kisser--even though it also clearly suggests that the kisser would be willing to kiss the other's face or lips. With younger people, or people in less secure relationships, the kiss might cause more outrage. Then again, younger generations generally express themselves more freely and passionately than the previous generation. So there are many factors to consider, and even an American could find this situation confusing or be made uncomfortable. Unless the person being kissed was extremely naive, though, or the couples' relationships were already critically jeopardized, there would probably be no long-lasting, serious repercussions from such an action for anyone involved.

many times those that are solid friends kiss one yet another on the cheek as a heat greeting or farewell in spite of intercourse. Kissing on the lips or mouth is reserved for a romantic better half or guy or woman of romantic pastime through fact it has sexual connotations.

In the South, we kiss our friends and family hello and goodbye. We kiss them when something special happens in their lives, or something unhappy happens . Most of us to not kiss on the lips unless we are dating or married to that person.
In the movie, I took that kiss to mean that she had feelings for him, but at that point had not expressed them due to her engagement.
