I don't think they should necesarily serve in the armed forces, but they should perhaps do something to benefit the country. Getting a job benefits the country - and _ALL_ immigrants should get a job (or have the means to support themselves without relying on the state) when they arrive here. If they haven't after say 2 months they should be immediately deported again. That is the bare minimum.

I think having lots of immigrants in the armed forces is quite a dangerous thing, if we were to go to war with a country where we have a lot of immigrants from then a proportion of our armed forces would be potential enemies.

But why stop at making immigrants serve the country - why not re-introduce national service for EVERYONE. People could be given a range of things to do (like in Germany for instance) work for an aid agency, in the emergency services or something of the kind as well as in the armed forces.

That wouldn't be an answer to the problem, it would allow many terrorists into the system though!
All immigrants should have to support themselves for the first 2 years. They should pay for private health care, they should be self sufficient, therefore not taking jobs from the indigenous population. There shouldn't be social security for them. There housing should be from the private sector.
After 2 years they would have earned some entitlements, be established and not just sucking the system dry.

not everyone who comes here is loyal to britain, no matter how much trouble they have back home. I don't think that solves any problems, I think the best way to deal with it is that anyone who comes here is not entitled to any state benefits for at least 5 years(paying taxes in that time would also be a criterea) this stops the free loaders and reduces many of our budgets NHS, Council, etc

Yes, bring back National Service too for young offenders, the Army will teach them respect and as the immigrants, once they have passed their status, they too should be sent into the Army to give something to the Country before they start claiming benefits which we tax payers supply.
