Do most insurance carriers cover damage caused by a uhaul?

My car was hit by a guy driving a Uhaul. He probably declined the optional insurance offered by Uhaul. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure if many insurance companies cover rental TRUCKS the way they do rental cars? Thanks.

Honestly, I doubt his personal auto insurance would cover it. He can try to get coverage by reporting it to them but, the personal auto policy is meant only for private passenger type vehicles - the Uhaul is a commercial type vehicle. Good luck, you may have to go after him personally for the damages. I hope he took the liability coverage offered by Uhaul.

His personal auto policy will NOT cover a U-Haul. However, the U-Haul vehicle has to have liability insurance to be operated on the road legally regardless of whether or not he took the optional Safe Move coverage.
