Naturally I am referring to the Grotto. Outside the enclosure of the gardens I find the Commercialism in the town rather shocking by comparison, and the misuse of the image of the "Virgen" , stamped on products of all kinds, including cigarette lighters(!) at times most distasteful. However the Grotto itself is distinctly magic, and the demonstrations of Faith one sees there truly moving.
But, what is it that makes people return there time and time again, whether it is to ask a favour or be cured of an illness, or just in order to find Inner Peace?
Do spiritual places like Lourdes possess an invisible energy that draws us to them? And has this energy perhaps always been there?
