NEVER...Dealers will ALWAYS rob you blind for parts and labor!!
I've seen people (mostly women) literally cry after getting the repair bill at a dealer. They overcharge and don't give a f*ck!
find a reputable mechanic in your area...ask friends/co-workers, etc who own Toyotas where they go to!

confident, you have a case. If the guy you have been speaking to on the dealership replaced into the mechanic that labored on your automobile, pass over his head if needed, to the shop foreman, or the owner of the dealership. in case you nonetheless get no delight, you may touch Volkswagen right now on the subject of your complaint. If all else fails, there is often small claims courtroom.

No, I prefer a local small garage for anything I cant do myself one advantage being I can chat to the mechanic directly, my experience from dealerships was not good - Id only use them if you need to so as to comply with the cars warranty.

For service (oil change, air filters, etc.) no, but for repairs, you betcha, for two reasons. First, both of them are under warranty, second they are hybrids (Prius and Camry Hybrid) and I won't let anyone but an authorized hybrid technician touch the thing if it actually needs work done on it. To this point, other than minor warranty issues, neither car has needed repairs.

At the moment, yes, it's still under warranty. When that's over, if I can do it myself I will, otherwise I'll be going there - they have all the tools, equipment and data. May cost more but they're more likely to do a good job if they want my business in the future.

If I can't do it myself yes. It's more expensive, but if it's an authorised dealership it can be more trustworthy as they have alot more to loose if they lie to you. If you can fix it yourself you can save hundreds on the most simple stuff (On my vw replacing the coolant flange at the dealership costs $240, for me to do it $13) Authorized dealerships risk loosing their brand name if they do business unethically, plus they are specialized to work on your brand of car. so if you can't fix it yourself or have anyone you trust to do it, take it to a Dealership.
