I don't doubt that she did see the Madonna as it had been described to her, the same way modern-day Europeans or Americans see UFOs, and the people in Pagan times saw the deities and spirits they were familiar with through their myths and legends.
I am quite convinced that there was something to see at these places, surprisingly often the same ones throughout the centuries/millenia, only the interpretation varied with the "viewer's" own belief system.
What it really is - who can know?

After all the facts of the case were scrupulously studied by the Bishops commission at the time the verdict was that Bernadette really did see the Blessed Virgin and after entering the convent of Nevers(France) she lived a holy life and died in sanctity.

Remember that Virgin Mary is also a human being like you, however she is considered Holy and righteous to God. She was appointed by God to give birth to Jesus in the form of Spirit and Jesus was born. After the birth of Christ, she was no longer virgin because she bore children from Joseph , her husband. When Mary died, she was buried like you when you will die. So Mary has now returned to dust.
Mary has no power as God. The apparition which you are stating is not the true virgin Mary but it is now the work of the Satan to deceive people from believing that Mary is appearing. That is one way of Satan's work to entice people from committing sins against God,
