that is not true.
28% looks like the response to "Are you an Atheist?".
Which ain't the same thing, since most modern churches do not take the Bible to literally.
It's the 5% of bored nutjobs who disgrace the entire nation.

It's hard to say. It is a great distance from basic question of the study, to the multiple choices given in the questionnaire, to the interpretation and release of the resulting statistics. Certainly an unfortunate percentage of Americans completely discount evolution, but it's likely that the majority are spread along the spectrum of doubt.
Stephen Weinberg has said that doubters he has interviewed were fairly open to the possibility of evolution during polite and unconfrontational discussion.
So I'd say that 28% is an extreme estimate, and the truth isn't so bleak.

I doubt it. I would be interested to know where you got that figure. I think they only people who deny evolution are fundamentalist Christians, and I do not see them as comprising a very large percentage of the American public.

I think it's more like 45%, if you include those who believe that God caused evolution.
That's about the same percentage that believes that Jesus will Rapture them into heaven within the next 50 years.
The intelligence level of humans is disappointing.

Is this an attack on Americans or Christians? Why what % of people in your country believe in evolution?

Ironically Christian Americans are pro-life, pro-gun.
They are also the leading consumers of hamburger helper and green jello with shredded carrots.

It is probably coming from the same statistic that says the majority of people are Christian. Just because mommy and daddy went to church does not make you a Christian. It isn't a gene thing it is a faith thing lol.

Need I remind you that numerical superiority of followers is not proof of reality. Hundreds of years ago, millions of people sincerely beleived that the world was flat. Didn't make it true!

I would seriously doubt that number.
I have honestly never met someone who believed in creationism as the source of how we came about.
We're not all moronic gun toting religious freaks....
Guns, god, & government is not what rules us all ;)
