Don't listen to all these people saying that tattoos are tacky, its all about personal opinion, if you think they're cool that's the only thing that matters! it's totally up to you what you have done. I've got my belly button pierced, though had that done when I was about 16 and the skin has loosened lets say (not sagged but not many people's skin is as taught as it would have been at 16!!) so the bar sits kind of forward, but isn't unsightly and given that it's been there nearly 8 years I guess it's going to give a little.
I've also got 2 tattoos, both on my back and they have the same theme! I took my mum with me to choose them and that was the right choice as I would have chosen something unsightly and tacky had I gone on my own so you could maybe ask someone for their (honest) opinion before you get it.
I'd go for the tattoo personally but it's really up to you!!!
PS - my friend has tattoos round her bellybutton and on the part that you mention (knicker line) and they have not stretched out with having kids so don't worry about that, she's on number 2 now!!

I would definitely go for the naval piercing as it can be removed later if you dont like it and it only leaves a relatively small scar, unlike a tattoo which is permanent.
I have both, (several in fact) and after 10 years I have removed my belly button piercing as the body tries to reject foreign objects and it was pushing mine out towards the surface of the skin. Even still, it is hardly noticable that I had one at all...
Consider later in life that if you wished to get pregnant, the piercing hole on a naval, would stretch to about the size of a 10p, but a tattoo would fade and stretch - possibly more than 20 times it's size... Hope this helps! x

Well i personally would go for the piercing.. as like other people said you can take it out (though it will not heal if it has been in there a while, mine will not)
I think tattoo on women personally look tacky, and if a women does have a tattoo then i think the only place it looks good is on her lower back.
My belly didn't hurt when i got it pierced.. just quite alot afterwards.

A piercing! unless you have already got a tattoo, then it won't matter. A piercing can be so easily removed and you just get left with a little hole, or it may close up if done in certain places. Over the years i have had many piercings and as i stand now no one would know looking at me - fantastic, they come, go, go back in!!!!

Well I would decide to get both if I could.. but for this question I'd say tattoo since it heals faster than a belly button piercing.

I have both tats and piercings. If I were you, i'd start with the piercing. The piercing experience sets you up nicely for a tattoo. The navel piercing was a very painful one for me, but well worth it. It also takes a lot of aftercare (typically, 12-18 months worth of twice daily and later daily cleaning), so keep that in mind. Also, both piercings and tattoos are permanent. Even if you removed the jewellery from a piercing, you'd most likely end up with some form of scarring.
No body mod that you get will allow you to just "coast". You have to stick to aftercare, no matter what you get.

first of all, why are you hurting yourself like that? you shouldn't be doing that. i think getting your cartilage will hurt more. i've got four tattoos and they didn't really hurt at all, but i know cartilage piercings hurt pretty bad and are sore for a while after. but at 12 you're too young for a tattoo, you're body is still changing and the tattoo might become distorted as you grow. you should wait until you've stopped growing or at least until you're done with most of your growing. and are you -really- sure that the tattoos you want now are something you'd still want when you're 30?
