I just had my cat spayed. The vet said the surgery was fine except that part of the breathing tube was still in my cat's windpipe or esophagus and that the cat would throw it up once her throat was no longer numb. Its been a full day and a half since the spay and my cat has not thrown up the tube. When she purs or breathes deeply you can hear a kind of "growling" noise, that makes it sounds like there is something still in her throat. So basically, I am wondering if it is possible to leave a piece of the breathing tube in the cat's throat after a spay, or if I just misheard the vet and its normal for the cat to sound hoarse after she had a breathing tube? If any one has had this problem with their cat, how long did it take for the cat to vomit the tube up?

I think you misheard the vet!

Breathing tubes are placed in the trachea (windpipe) which is separate to the oesophagus. The tube is a solid object, bits of it do not get left behind! Your cat will not be vomiting anything up!! It just isn't possible to leave part of the tube in the oesophagus.

I think what you're vet was trying to tell you was that your cat may experience irritation in the trachea from the tube, which would cause the gurgling and wheezing. This is common and should clear up after a few days, if it doesn't see your vet again.

That is outrageous! You should take the kitty back to that vet and demand that he fix the problem! I don't think it is safe to leave a tube inside a cat's throat. If the vet kenw that it was there, then why on earth has he done nothing about it while the cat was still in surgery? I have never heard of such a thing!

I have never heard of this and I have worked in a spay and neuter clinic! You should consider calling another vet or an emergency pet hospital tonite and ask them if they have ever heard of such a thing.
I have never noticed my cats being hoarse after a surgery but I suppose that is possible just as it is in humans.
You need to call your vet tomorrow and re-ask what it is they said about that tube. There is no way they would leave a tube in your kitty's throat as she could choke and die! Ask them all of the questions you have asked here and any thing else you can think of!

Huh? Your veterinarian sounds weird! Take your cat to another veterinarian immediately! Don't delay. There is no such thing as a tube being left behind in the cat's throat. What kind of cheesy charlatan vet is this anyway?

GOOD LORD!!! It is NOT NORMAL and I would have a hysterical fit if my vet told me that!!

If you indeed heard your vet correctly -- you'd better get another vet.

I have never heard of such a thing... In my opinion you'd be within your rights to go bash down the vet's door and make her fix the cat RIGHT NOW.

Of course, you probably shouldn't do that...

But FIRST thing in the morning call your vet and make SURE you heard her correctly. Then INSIST she fix it, FOR FREE or bring him to another vet -- and have them send the bill to the vet who did this!

Good luck.

Sue the vet! let us know where you whent so no more kittens are treated in this barberic manner! The tube can dislodge and block the throat completely causing an obstruction in the airway leading to your kitten to suffocate.

whilst woman cats and canines are spayed, their uterus and ovaries are bumped off. Male cats and canines have their testicle bumped off. in case you do no longer desire the reproductive organs to artwork, there is not any component leaving them in there, they're going to do no longer something different than get contaminated sometime. it truly is very uncomplicated on woman canines - they're companies to pyometra (uterine an infection) whilst they're older, which will nicely be deadly, so there is not any component taking that risk. human beings get their pets spayed to stay away from undesirable behaviour as nicely as offspring, so the ovaries/testicles could desire to be bumped off to do away with the hormones. i would not call spaying 'gutting' the two, this is particularly problem loose, in assessment to last intact. a solid physician could additionally spay a cat or woman canines by way of an incision off approximately 2 inches in length - or decrease than an inch in a cat! As for male cats, the testicles are bumped off with out having to flow into the tummy, they're severed from the exterior by way of slitting the scrotum. in case you needed to tie stuff off (a vasectomy) you may could desire to flow into the tummy, that's far flow invasive and for this reason risky. in short, 'tying stuff off' may be plenty extra risky and pointless than the operations that are finished. Chalice 'in case you do no longer only like the animals how they're do no longer purchase them' - this is authentic regarding docking, de-clawing and so on as those do no longer earnings the animal. Neutering even with the undeniable fact this is fairly plenty for the earnings of the animal, and the animal inhabitants extra often than no longer. only through fact you have a diverse thought would not make it remarkable - for sure surgeons have considered tying, this is achieved the way it truly is for the justifications defined ABOVE!
