Our house has light blue/gray siding, and white trim around all the windows/doors, with a black roof. HOWEVER- there is brick edging on either side of the garage door and this brick is yellow/orange, kind of like a light coloured tabby cat. What colour would be best for painting the garage door? Should it match the house, the brick, the roof? How do you find something that matches with light blue and orange??

It should be totally different. Perhaps very dark blue and it should also be the color of the front door

The best way to deal with this is to go to a hardware/homeware shop that sells paint. ANd walk through and have a look at all the sample colour cards they have to get inspired. They also have little cards / booklets that suggest the best three or four colours to put together. They are great for providing a colour scheme and my hubby and I sorted this problem out by doing that. Our place looks great inside now.
I personally think you need a darker more toned down colour for your garage door considering the rest of your place is so bright by the sounds of it! Good luck!

Go to a paint store and get some paint chips that match all the colours concerned. Once you have them all, ask a consultant (or somebody with good colour sense) and between everybody involved you may find a colour that complements all of them.

Either paint it the blue/gray of the house, or the white of the trim. You already have an attractive color scheme, so those will work the best.
[I have a cat that color, and he looks great on my blue-gray
bedspread, and I think he knows it! My black cat likes to pose on my guest room spread - it's yellow.]

Take a digital photo of the garage and surrounding house. Then when you upload it to your computer, use a program that allows you to change color. (Photoshop, MS photo, Coral Paint, etc.) Try the doors out in a variety of colors to see what color you like best.
