There is no religion that I know of that has this requirement. However, churches have to schedule all members activities and many people want to have them on a certain day, such as the weekend.

I am currently planning a wedding, and I ran across several churches that had this same requirement. Many churches have Saturday evening services or band practice, so they want you to have an early wedding so they have time to clean up and prepare for the service.

It's probably because of the schedule. The preacher probably has something else afterwards. If it is on Saturday, it's probably a Catholic Church or Presbyterian. Mass or service normally begins at 5:00 p.m. and it takes time to clean the church afterwards.

Apparently, the church where they are getting married. ;)

Sometimes there are other events on the same day, so time limits are imposed so the church can be cleared of one party before the next starts.

Sound like they have an on going activity that they need the church for. Once we had to be out of the church because that was "funeral" time.

There may be a scheduling conflict on the day in question. Maybe they just want to get a head start on the "honeymoon"!
