So I just bought a rifle, waited the 10 day period but when I went back it turns out they released it to another customer who bought the same rifle.

What is the store required by law to do to make sure nothing that potentially could have been done with that gun doesn't come back on me?

By law the dealer must notify the FBI/ATF about the mistake THEY made. I would ask to get something in writing or talk to someone investigating it since lord knows what they might end up doing with the rifle!

The store is on the hook, not you. Your name does not appear on the transfer forms, the other person does.

Some time ago I bought a Mossberg shotgun off auctionarms.com. The Las Vegas dealer sent a Remington Shotgun by mistake. Made a phone call to him and had my dealer ship back the Remington. I got my Mossberg a few days later. Nothing illegal occurred with the error.

In your situation, you and another customer bought the same model gun. All it would take to correct the problem is for the dealer to make out new forms, keeping the old ones available with an explanation attached. This is not a big deal.

Demand a new rifle.

The one you bought isn't new anymore since some retard got his hands on it. Do NOT accept a used rifle from them no matter what they say!

If they give you **** about it, make it a point to pull out your cellphone and dial the local ATF office. You'll get satisfaction pretty quick.

It is the sellers responsibility not yours to make it right...
