If you are referring to their entertainment value, that would be a personal choice. If you are referring to their realistic portrayal of police work, I have never seen any. Even COPS, which is filmed with real cops on actual calls, is so heavily edited that it becomes unrealistic.

If you are looking for an accurate portrayal of what Police Detectives do, the only show I have watched that is even close is The First 48 on A&E. Other than that, the rest are for entertainment value over accuracy.

I quit watching Police shows a while ago. As far as entertainment value, and unfortunately aren't on any more were, Hill Street Blues, Barney Miller, and Night Court.

in case you're speaking terrific real police action then needless to say no longer something can beat law enforcement officers. that's real whether time edited and that i'm helpful action edited to whether that's real and not staged. For Hollywood must be the two Hill highway Blues or NYPD BLUE. 2 shows that confirmed law enforcement officers in real life situations very own and expert and how the two intertwined with one yet another. How the two aspects of their life feed and effected one yet another.

I love Law & Order ~ all of them but especially SVU with Hargitay, Meloni and crew
The District
The Commish (when it was on)
Hill Street Blues (older one may not be on)
Third Watch (reruns ~ really good)
Without A Trace
Close To Home
The First 48
Court TV has good shows, too

And who could pass up Andy and Barney in Mayberry? lol

From a law enforcement perspective none, because they create a false perception of the tools we have at our disposal. We don't have a CSI; not everything can be put through tests, etc.

That said there's a boatload of entertaining shows. The Shield is pretty cool.

I agree with dh1977, "The First 48" is probably the best cop show on tv.

I like the one with Vince D'inofrio (sp?). I don't like blood and guts and the plots are ok... I just really like Vince D'inofrio.

I also like Monk.
