My dad works in a welding machine shop and they found a baby blue jay in one of the storage rooms. They looked all over the place and found No visible nests or other birds. So he brought it home in a box, and we called the wildlife group near us, and they can't get out here for at least a month. However, They didnt tell me what to feed him, I've been cutting up worms and feeding him that way, but should I be giving him something else?

He's NOT that old and it looks to be that he's JUST getting his feathers.

He still has some of the baby fuzz on his head

Call a vet in the morning and they can take the bird. They have expierence feeding and caring for them. If it is legal for you to keep it and it can be fed all day long by someone, have the vet show you how and what to feed it.

I helped raise a baby blue jay that got knocked out of the nest when a cat attacked and killed the mother. It had just started to grow feathers. My dad and me used a towel in a box and made it into the shape of a nest and placed it on our space heater for warmth in the middle of our house. We dug up worms to feed it. I think my dad even fed some small crushed up crickets in an eye dropper with some water. (It was a long time ago we raised it.) We fed it every couple of hours. The bird grew up happy and heathy. My dad grew attached to it and fed it some serbert once in a while. Soon it started making noises like the dog barking and the phone ringing.

Your local pet store should carry food for baby parrots, it is mixable with water and you can use a syringe with no needle to feed the bird. That would be your best option. A long time ago I raised a baby sparrow by putting dog chow in warm water and mushing it up into little worm size particles and the baby bird grew up on it. Don't get too attached to your little chick, so many of them don't survive.

Good luck-Jays are such characters!

P.S. LYNN W's recipe sounds like a good mix, especially the Tums for calcium

If he's still eating from a dropper, you can feed him baby bird formula from the pet store.
It sounds like he's taking some solid food. You can get Monkey Chow at the pet store, wet it, and tear off chunks for him to eat. Soon he will be able to tear off his own chunks.
You could also give him bread soaked with milk, or plain bread.
Blue jays eat a variety of foods, like nuts and seeds and insects. Worms are good, but he needs more variety, unless you are giving him formula.
You can give him cooked egg too. At this point you probably shouldn't give him whole peanuts as you would an adult, and peanut butter is too sticky, but you could give him crushed peanuts and birdseed once he is able to pick up his own food. Make sure he gets enough protein, since jays do eat meat, bugs, eggs and nuts as well as seed.
Good luck.

i would say that he needs more than worms, try and soak some wheat bread in canned milk, and warm it up a little he needs to eat almost every half hour to an hour during the day, blue jays are scavengers so they will eat everything from bugs to dog food. and remember to keep him warm at all times! make sure he gets a normal sleep schedule meaning, when its dark, he is asleep, and he stays that way till the sun comes up. try not to handle him alot and if you do wash your hands, wild birds are especially prone to human germs. good luck!

1 cup soaked dog/cat food
1/4 cup of applesauce
1 hard boiled egg
Avian vitamins (follow dosage on package)
Around 750 mg calcium (I use Tums Smooth Dissolve tablet) ground to powder and dissolved in a little water.
Water

Mix all ingredients together, and add enough water to make it the consistency of cooked oatmeal

worms shouldn't be given because they can carry parasites that may kill them.

blue jays also like fruit... you could fingd an eyedropper or a syringe, and mush up some food for it that way, because some birds regergitate for their babies and an eyedropper might help the baby eat better
