I've had this dream for 5 years now, trying to understand it but just cannot.
It starts out me sitting in a corner in a dark damp room with a door to my left with a blinding white light underneath the door. In the dream I try to crawl towards the door but once I reach the door I wake up.

It sounds like your having problems with getting something that you want.
The darkness in your dream represents a problem you dont know how to overcome. Or possibly you dont know what to do or where to start to get your goal accomplished.
The door in your dream represents the access point to your goal, of which is shut and unapproachable (you wake up everytime you reach it)
The light underneath the door, represents the goal as a whole. You being able to see it tells me that you have what you need to open the door, if you wanted the door to be opened of course.
The dampness in the room, represents weight and uncertainty.
The next time you have this dream, focus on the light underneath door, and allow it to flow as far as possible into the room you're in. Its possible for you, in your dreamstate, to manipulate small parts of what your dreaming, so instead of trying to reach the door to open it, simply allow the light to absorb as much of the darkness in the room as possible.

try to crawl towards the door = looking for support, low self esteem
There may be some fear hidden in your life and subconsciously you want to get this off your mind. However, due to some reason, perhaps, you are not getting support your need, and also some low self esteem and confidence involved. You may not be able to acheive the desire or hope you try to get it. it could be anything from career, family and relationship. Examine your life and you probably know why you projected dream like that in your life.

This is about your life. Compared to the light beyond the door, you may have felt cornered and that your life was dark and unpleasant. The light symbolizes the great potential that is "just on the other side of the door", waiting for you. Hope this helps.

It means you spend to much time in dark damp rooms and you need to stop hanging out in places like that.

How do you feel about the white light? Is it desirable or scary? Could it represent something you are trying to accomplish, striving for, but haven't reached yet? Could it represent a threat or something frightening in your life?
