Well, it technically wasn't a bet, as God and Satan did not even have anything at stake.
But you're mostly right that God does respond to dares. Satan came out and said, "Hey, Job only worships you because you give him hot bling. I dare you to drop your protection so I can jack with him. Then you'll see how Job really feels."
And when God is proven wrong by Job cursing him, he goes on a hissy fit.
So, technically, not a gamble. Not even that grand. It was a dare and nothing more.

bubs: You can not find any where within the pages of the Holy Bible, the words, "you should not gamble". Also, you can't find where God and Satan had a bet on over any human beings faith. What you are making reference to, is the event in the Book of Job, regarding Job's testing by Satan. In the conclusion of this trial or testing, God restores to Job 7 times the original wealth he lost. This was a Spiritual testing at the hands of Satan (Christians oftentimes, experience many hardships at the hand of Satan) to demonstrate to Satan, that the Holy Spirit keeps a person faithful to God and not the physical things and motives people have. This is why people need God's Holy Spirit. Satan trusts in the self - not God.

God pretty much makes it clear whats going
to happen from the beginning to the end.
We are the gamblers.
God made creation man dropped the ball,
gods picking up the ball.
Satans going straight to hell end of story.
God doesnt have to gamble..
He knows all hearts, with job the focal point
of the story is a higher negative force was
dealing with job and his impeccable faith.
When the devil himself is concerned about
bending gods justice poor job was up to
bat because god knew jobs limitations and
he was perfect for the job.
What a price job had paid to show satan
gods justice, in the end he was blessed.
We are not the only ones being showed
why god is going to toss evil in the fire.
God is showing all of creation not just humans that "he is"..

The reason that the Bible denounces gambling is because instead of possible losing your money in a slot machine, you should be giving it to help people who need it. In Job, no money was exchanged. (God doesn't deal in the filthy lucre.) He can give poor people the help they need at any time. We humans are supposed to be doing what God would do for one another, but we don't have the power that He has so we have to use what we do have.

Ah... you mean Job.
Well, how about this? In gambling, it's all chance. You don't know where it's going, how the chips will fall, what cards you'll get etc.
But how about this? If God is indeed all-knowing, he'd know the outcome. He's not even gambling because he knows this man Job.
It's like you betting with me that if I put water in a freezer, it won't turn to ice. You know I'd win.
Besides, no money was involved. All that happened was that God got to prove his point and show us all, Job himself included, something through that suffering.

The book of Job.... God kind of conned the devil, though, don't you think? I mean, He's all-knowing and all-seeing, so He already knew how it would turn out. Even if it was a bet, it wasn't really a fair one, so not exactly gambling, but also not exactly the "do unto others" stuff that's so famous in the Bible.

That would be Job and Job did not lose faith, the devil took a sucker bet. God knew already that Job would not lose faith. So how would that be gambling?

You are referencing the book of Job. The text does not speak of a bet. As far as the Bible denouncing gambling, I am unaware of any specific text condemning it.

The mans name was Job. In the Old Testament book of Job. Its just my opinion, but that is not the same as gambling away the children's lunch money.
