Why is it that people want to still keep things to themselves even after others have found out?

there is this co-worker, he talk about his personal life all the time, and he's known to be cocky, his engagment got called off because his fiancee suspected him of cheating with this co-worker , well this co-worker and him are closer than ever, in a way he was cheating on his fiancee while he was engaged with this other woman becuase he would grab her butt and she would let him..so anyways they are more closer than ever, even though their friends at work think they are more than just really good friends,

today this other guy i work with went up to him and asked him "has your family left yet'', referring to the co-worker who brought her baby son for a couple of mins to work and the guy got mad, but he shouldn't have - he brought him upon himself, i mean they are always together and the guy that asked him that question is buddies with the guy..so i dont know why he got all upset

Sounds like he's a jerk, and he probably thinks he's a stud. The other guy popped his bubble.

He's probably just being defensive for defensiveness' sake. (if that makes sense). Regardless of whether or not people bring things upon themselves they may just react differently to something they are a little sensitive about. The way your co-worker reacted may show that he's just not ready for it to be all out in the open yet. He might think that people think less of him for it, or he might be feeling guilty.

I think the real etiquette here is to mind your own business. Drama like this is half the reason why the corporate world sucks. Do your job and go home, I gurantee you will be a lot happier if you only worry about yourself.

i think the other co-worker did the right thing busted his bubble, and the other one didn't like other ppl jumping in his business, then he shouldn't let his other co-workers see him do stuff like that.he needed to be put in his place, and if the shoe fits wear it.i think the other co-worker had every right to bust his bubble.

he is probably living in a fantasy world. he is in complete denial and he thinks that because he doesn't see what his actions are causing nobody does either. all i can say is good for the fiancee that she escaped this guy.
