Cornbread, crowder peas, turnip greens, fried anything we can, including fried pickles, okra, fried green tomatoes, then grits, black-eyed peas on New Years, white gravy on biscuits, sauerkraut with wieners and eggs with gravy. BBQ and watermelon always. We always cook on the grill, and serve potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, corn on the cobb and some kind of bread!!! Did I leave out anything Probably, but cannot think now of the millions of other things we eat. Sweet tea and fried fish, oh I mentioned fried things. Mint Juleps, Kentucky horse racing and race cars, Mad things like parades, jubilation events, concerts and such, we get together for whatever reason!!!!

I cannot believe nobody's mentioned a pouch of salted peanuts in a Coke. Maybe it's because the old glass deposit bottles have fallen out of favor? It's sad when fun, unique regional food traditions disappear.

hmm...my mom used to live in alabama, let's see what she 'brought home'

moonpies
krispy kreme donuts (before they were a northern staple)
collard greens
red beans and rice (about 3 times a week for 4-5 years in my childhood)
tony cachere's cajun seasoning
oh, and beignets.

yum!
