From the Holy Quran, Sura 9

Verse 38-39

O you who believe! What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to march forth in the Cause of Allâh (i.e. Jihâd) you cling heavily to the earth? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter. If you march not forth, He will punish you with a painful torment and will replace you by another people, and you cannot harm Him at all, and Allâh is Able to do all things.

Verse 44,

Those who believe in Allâh and the Last Day would not ask your leave to be exempted from fighting with their properties and their lives, and Allâh is the All-Knower of Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2).

DBZNut: I skipped the verses because the next few verses were irrelevant to the discussion.

What you have discuss, I know. There were muslims that refused to fight for whatever reason. My question is why refusal to fight is a crime in Allah's eyes? There are many aggressions by people against people but the divine ones are those that value the life of a human being, even if its the life of your enemy and some would rather sacrifice his/her own life than to take a someone elses life. So according to you, Allah expects you to kill someone or you will go to hell?

The translation you is the Nobel Quran of Saudi Arabia, used primarily in the US mosque. It is the most literal translation.

"If someone is attacking you, you should fight back, if they are killing your brothers you should fight back, simple.
Do you think it would have been a good idea for the world not to fight back against hitler, do you think it's a good idea to just sit there and let him kill you one by one.
I don't think so.
If you don't fight back your a coward, Why shouldn't you.
It's self defence."

I like you to read what you have just wrote and think about what you just said. So to you, thou shalt not kill does not apply? To you, killing people is okay? For those that didn't fight, you call them "cowards". Allah is so weak that he requires humans to do the fighting for him? Then again, think about it, the muslims have to march a long way to attack the christian byzantines. Does that seem like defensive fighting to you?

Salafi/Wahabi islam is fundamental islam, ie going back to the roots of islam, back to the islam of Muhammed. Although islam has changed over the years, especially outside the middle east to a more moderate form, that islam is not the real islam.

Exactly what translation are you using? This is from the Pickthall version and as you can see it says nothing about fighting or killing. But rather striving with your life and possesions in the way of Allah (S.A.), in the way of true Islam which is peace. Jihad does not mean holy war, that is a damn lie created by opponents of Islam and extremists looking to justify their evil deeds.

38. O ye who believe! What aileth you that when it is said unto you: Go forth in the way of Allah, ye are bowed down to the ground with heaviness. Take ye pleasure in the life of the world rather than in the Hereafter ? The comfort of the life of the world is but little in the Hereafter.

39. If ye go not forth He will afflict you with a painful doom, and will choose instead of you a folk other than you. Ye cannot harm Him at all. Allah is Able to do all things.

There is no compulsion for a Muslim to kill someone, even murderers are spared if the victims family forgives the him.
It is taught in the Quran that forgiveness is rewarded more than vengeance.

Ahhh, so you use the Quran created by the state sponsored Wahabis/Salafis or better known as the most extreme perversion of Islam, even other Muslims are to be killed by them if they are not Wahhabi. That is not true Islam and although the Saudi government has spent billions of dollars to further Wahhabism in the U.S. and around the world, they are a very small minority of Muslims and should not be viewed as true followers of Islam. Many mosques are under Wahhabi influence but they are still the minority of Muslims in the U.S.
Go ahead and read this Senate hearing and it will show you the difference between Wahhabism and real Islam, and it is even shown that the Wahhabi version of the Quran is completely different than the real Quran. And, Senators even speak about how real Islam and the majority of peaceful Muslims are not to be confused with Wahhabism.

No, you are wrong Wahhabism was created in the 1700's by a disgruntled Islamic Scholar who was unhappy with the way Islam was being practiced. He reinterpreted the Quran to suit his ideas. If you think that Islam up to the 1700's was not true Islam you are completely mistaken.

Request: Sura 9 Aya 38 to 39
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ مَا لَكُمْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمُ انفِرُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ اثَّاقَلْتُمْ إِلَى الأَرْضِ أَرَضِيتُم بِالْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا مِنَ الآخِرَةِ فَمَا مَتَاعُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا فِي الآخِرَةِ إِلاَّ قَلِيلٌ {38}
[Shakir 9:38] O you who believe! What (excuse) have you that when it is said to you: Go forth in Allah's way, you should incline heavily to earth; are you contented with this world's life instead of the hereafter? But the provision of this world's life compared with the hereafter is but little.
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 9:38]

The reference is to the defensive expedition of Tabuk in 9 Hijra, to counter the aggression by the Byzantine empire. The people who hesitated to follow the call of Tabuk were deterred by:

(i) a very long journey in the heat of the summer,

(ii) the fear of losing the fruit harvest, which was ripe for gathering,

(iii) the dread of a highly organised, large and formidable foe.

They have been reminded that the comforts of this life are little as compared with the hereafter. Those who hesitated on account of clinging to worldly gains were suffering from a spiritual disease, therefore they have been warned of severe punishment if they failed to obey the Holy Prophet. If a nation receives favours and fails to deserve them, it will be replaced by another, as has often happened in history.

إِلاَّ تَنفِرُواْ يُعَذِّبْكُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا وَيَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ وَلاَ تَضُرُّوهُ شَيْئًا وَاللّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ {39}
[Shakir 9:39] If you do not go forth, He will chastise you with a painful chastisement and bring in your place a people other than you, and you will do Him no harm; and Allah has power over all things.
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 9:39] (see commentary for verse 38)

Funny that you Jump from verse 39 all the way to verse 44.

What a devilish move that was.

Keep skipping verses and you will surely misinterpret the verses.

Request: Sura 9 Aya 44 to 44
لاَ يَسْتَأْذِنُكَ الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ أَن يُجَاهِدُواْ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالْمُتَّقِينَ {44}
[Shakir 9:44] They do not ask leave of you who believe in Allah and the latter day (to stay away) from striving hard with their property and their persons, and Allah knows those who guard (against evil).
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 9:44]

The sure faith of the true believers has been compared with the doubt of the disbelievers. Doubt takes away all stability of character and conduct. Faith makes a man firm in action, and cool and collected in mind.

If someone is attacking you, you should fight back, if they are killing your brothers you should fight back, simple.

I believe you have to put the verse into historical context first, before attempting to understand it.

The Qur'an was revealed to Muhammad (pbuh) over a period of time, and the historical events that took place during the period of the revelation can really put a very logical and valid explanation into perspective. One that you will agree with, as many before you have done.

Many people make the same mistake you are making. Attempting to simply open the Qur'an and immediately understand such verses as the one you attached above, without fully having the pre-requisite knowledge that is needed to understand it.

So I encourage people to read up more on Islamic history and what happened during the life of the Prophet (pbuh) to fully understand the verses that deal with issues that confronted him (pbuh) during his lifetime.

Allah does not exist so he cannot "do" anything! The cult teaches to kill and kill. You are either to be the killer or the killed. Pick one if you intend to be Muslim or get out of that crazy cult before you wake up in hell forever!
