Australians also call those items Manchester. Originally most of the stuff came from Manchester in England and were known as Manchester goods. The name has stuck but it is dying out in general use. The most common users of the word these days are advertisers.

By the way, one Kiwi, two Kiwis. No apostrophe is required to make a plural.

The others are right about its origins, but it has faded, considerably. I can't recall the last time I heard of it referred to as Manchester.
I recall now the big stores had Manchester and Haberdashery Departments and that is another word that has disappeared.

Cause that is what they are called in the shops when you go shopping - but generally sheets and towels is what most people say.
