“As early as 1518, Dr. Martin Luther had identified the Islamic faith as the "retribution of God."

For the rest of his life Luther believed that the Muslims were God's punishment upon a sinful Christendom who had, among other sins (ingratitude, toleration of wicked sects, worship of the god Mammon, drunkenness, greed, and the split of Christendom which had provoked His wrath), tolerated the papal abomination. They would function as Germany's schoolmaster who must correct and teach the German people to repent of their sins and to fear God.”

Many assumptions made by Luther were because of his complete faith in the bible, most of his words were based on the fact that Muslims believed Jesus to be a prophet and not the son of God...that was Luther's biggest issue with the Muslims, all his other issues revolve around the disbelief in Christ.

They weren't the one ones use for partial punishment. But all of them had been used to punish Pagan Rome, Papal Rome, and Protestantism. Of direction Papal Rome and Protestantism fought every different as good.

Well, he wasn't correct in that regard and neither was he in being an anti-Semite.

However, I give him props for standing up to the Catholic Church while managing to stay unscathed.
