Tracking systems are widely used in the armed services, particularly within special ops units. Not everyone is so equipped, but they are in use. Embedded devices are not in use to my knowledge, but I would not put it out of the realm of some of the CIA spooks having that done.

It has already been developed. Many pets have them already!! The technology is available but, I think it would be a voluntary thing as I would not want the device inserted in my body!!

I could see them carrying something like this but, implantation should remain a personal choice! Not a mandated one!

And if the Enemy got hold of the tracking technology, then they could locate us to kill us.

This same tech is being debated for prevention of Friendly Fire as well. again I say NO. what if the enemy got hold of one of the "friendly" chips/transponders. them we could not shoot him even though he is shooting at us.

Forget it. As nice an Idea it seems on the surface. the problems of reality makes it a greater danger than you realize.

that might be too extreme, but maybe special forces might find that useful, especially if we need to locate spec. ops in hostile territory, we just can't rush thousands of troops into a country that we've deployed special forces to (because usually we wouldn't have deployed our regular guys)...
However, I think the option should exist for normal troops who would like the peace of mind...

The enemy would either chop that body part off, or just kill the prisoner, they would have no chance if caught.

No because it could be used both ways.

It could be painful when the kidnappers dig it out.
