His style of boxing and behavior outside the ring shouldnt affect where people view him in terms of overall talent. Maybe it affects how much all of you dislike him, and he probably deserves that. I wish he had more responsible management that could control him more and help him behave in a way that would endear him to the public. BUT, he is still the best fighter, pound for pound, in the business. I dont think he is really retired. And the joker who said he hasnt fought anyone, sorry, but you obviously know nothing about boxing. Manfredy, Gatti, Chavez, Corrales, Mitchell, Baldomir, Castillo, Judah, De La Hoya, Hernandez, were all world champions. No disrespect but to say that isnt formidable competition proves you dont know much about boxing. He's a loudmouth and he comes from a dysfunctional family. So what? He is still head and shoulders above the rest. Manny Pacquiao may be more entertaining but that doesnt make him a more skilled fighter than pretty boy. Floyd Jr. is the best.

I don't. He's overrated. Never fought no good fighter except a slow, over-the-hill Oscar De la Hoya. Couldn't even knock the old guy out. Manny Pacquiao is the best unretired boxer in the planet.

I try to keep things sterile..... Based on strength of opposition, I have to say no.

Mayweather has fighters from 147-154 lbs that he apparently does not think are worthy opponents because they do not bring him exposure. These are the same guys that can make him a legend if he fights them and wins.

The point is Mayweather has good potential opponents, but choses the safe road and seems like he wants to avoid opponents that may be more evenly matched against him.

Meanwhile....at #2 on the PFP list is Pacman. He has a draw with #4 (J Marquez) and a win over #9 (Barrera). Not to mention wins over Morales. He fights everyone. How is that not better opposition...yet he is ranked #2 behind Mayweather!?!

It used to be that if you beat other PFP top 10 guys, you were #1. Mayweather's rank seems to be based on his potential as the next big draw in boxing. Who did he beat to merit the ranking?

I will agree that Mayweather is extremely talented. Man that defense is artistry.

He sure looks like the best......but I think he is un-tested and is managed based on profit, not competition.

I think he has to do more for me to agree that he is the best. Especially when there are fighters out there willing to face tougher opponents.

Just my 0.02 cents.

If Floyd wouldn't have acted like such a fool leading up to the DeLa Hoya fight, I would have agreed with you without hesitation. Truth be told I'm going to agree with you anyway, but I gotta tell you there is a big difference between Showing class in and out of the ring like say an Arquello or a Holyfield, and being a jerk like say any number of wanna be thugs in boxing. As a boxer I am a huge fan of James Toney, but when he opens his mouth in front of a camera, he shoots himself in the foot with his belligerent attitude. To a lesser extent the same holds true with Floyd. He should stick to what he does best, boxing. The disrespect he attempted to show DeLa Hoya rebounded against him, and cast a negative light on him. I always considered Floyd the best out there, but how a man conducts himself matters almost a much as his ring skills. This is why I hesitate before giving Floyd his due.

If he would have shut up and won a decision against Oscar without the theatrics, then without a doubt, hands down, he's the best. Failing to deliver a promised beating tarnished him almost as much as the backward sombrero. Nobody approves of such behavior, it's insulting and beneath the dignity of the best boxer in the business, Floyd should have carried himself with more class. Still, with that said, I agree, that Floyd is one of the top four or five boxers in the business.

Winky Wright is the best unretired boxer today. And even if Floyd unretired, Wright is STILL better.

First of all, Mayweather decided to retire a few days after his victory over De La Hoya. Secondly, it clear that Mayweather was the best pound for pound fighter when he retired, especially in this time when the sport of boxing is at its lowest level in years.

Blogbaba you have put my thoughts into words.

It IS his behavior as to why I won't exactly give Floyd his due!!!!!

So yes, I guess Floyd is the best fighter currently....

I still however would root for Mosley if they ever fought!

I'm just going to respond to Earl... dude, what have you been smoking?? "Stay at Home Joe" Calzaghe will retire before he fights anyone with anyone with a shot at beating him. My guess... he'll take a fight with Jermain Taylor (WAY overrated), then retire before Pavlik or Kessler gets the chance to knock him out.
