YUCK!!!!! I am sure it happens, I however, have never done this myself. Makes you think twice about eating off of a buffet, doesn't it?!

I never pay attention to whether it happens or not, I'm not a germaphobe and I really couldn't care less. Most people don't drool all over their snacks anyhow. But I know people object to it so I generally don't do it, but if I do I use the other end of a celery/carrot stick... now those things have two ends for a reason, just don't triple-dip them. :-)

I never double dip and hope that most people don't. The hostess of these events can help by putting serving spoons in the dips and having small plates for people to each have his/her own dish of dip.

Excellent question. If at all possible, announce whether it's okay to double dip. Most people will say, "sure, go for it!" The truth is that everyone does it and everyone wants to do it.
