Technically everyone has little bugs in their bed - dust mites. Bed bugs are visible to the naked eye.

Everyone has "bed bugs"! EWWW, gross, I know. They are called mites. They are also in carpeting and upholstered furniture. They feed on dead skin cells that we slough off. Usually they are far under the surface and do not bother you. But when you vacuum your mattress you pull them to the surface. Then they will bite. You may experience anything from tiny, red and possibly itchy patches of skin something like a rash to a full blown allergic reaction.
I was told they are worse in the mattress because it is thicker and not vacuumed very often, if at all.
A hypo-allergenic plastic mattress cover can help keep em off of you.

the first clue is obviously the bites. these can occur all over the body. if u can cross-out other likely contenders like fleas or mosquitos, then u can assume it's from bed bugs. bed bugs like to hide in any crevices. so look for them under mattresses or in between the mattress piping. also, behind the headboard is a very common place they hide. they look like little ticks/mites. when they've had their dinner 'thanks' to you, they're abdomens are swollen with blood and look like drops of blood with little legs attached. often, a tell-tale sign of their presence is little black marks which are their droppings and dried blood drops on the sheets. these could either be from ur wounds or an occasional bug getting squished by ur weight.
