I was broken down in Tok, Alaska and had nowhere to spend the night. I had put my last $10 in the gas tank. It was 30 below zero outside and it was the middle of a snowstorm. My first thought was to call around to a local church and see if my 3 year old daughter and I could stay the night on the floor. I called two churches and both ministers said that I could not stay. Neither gave me the name of a place I could stay or offered to help in any way. I was on the pay phone outside a restaurant to make the calls. When I hung up the phone, a lady who had been on the phone next to me said, "I heard you say you had nowhere to stay, I have a hotel room across the road and you and your daughter are welcome to have the second bed that I'm not using." I burst into tears. It turned out that she was working with Alaska Fish and Game and was at a conference in Tok. We stayed the night with her and parted ways the next morning when my truck was fixed. She saved us from a night in the bitter cold in the back of a broken pick-up truck. Since then, I am wary of people who claim to be "Christian". I found my faith in humanity that night!!

I went to the food store to pick up a couple of things, I do not drive but catch the bus, of course I got more that I could carry. While at the bus stop a strange lady offered me a ride home and would not accept any money.

I was the recipient of a random act of kindness today.. While driving home from the store I got a flat tire.. I had no sooner pulled to the side of the road when a man "Dave" pulled up.. He changed the tire for me and then followed me to the tire shop because he said "Your spare doesn't look all that reliable" When we arrived he made sure I had enough money to pay for a new tire the one that got a flat was dead..

Yes I could have changed the tire on my own and driven to get a tire on my own but "Dave" did it for me and when I offered to pay him he refused saying "Do a kindness for someone else that's payment enough."

Thanks "Dave"

Random acts of kindness are fun to give and receive.. I anxiously await a time when I can pay "Dave" back for his kindness..

Yup.

And I do them regularly. I used to have little cards printed up that said something like, "You are the recipient of a Random Act Of Kindness"... The only way you can "pay it back" is to "pass it on". Find somebody with a need, and fill it. It is that easy! Then hand them this card.......

My father and some other people from our trailer park, saved two men from Lake Ontario, it is a long story, but although one of them died, the other man is alive thanks to the efforts the men made to save them.
They put themselves in danger and physical pain to save them.

My father also stopped a machette wielding man in a school, from attacking anyone. He grabbed him and unarmed him.

When my son was younger and I was a single mom, we would take the bus everywhere. His stroller was very heavy and I often had complete strangers offer to help me on the bus. They were often the people you would least suspect of helping.

I have actually seen a lot of random acts of kindness, although we could always use more in this world.

Let me enumerate it
1. Someone gave me a lift when I got lost. He never asked for something in return. I gave him my moon cake.
2. A Family whom we hardly know helped us in moving off to a different home.
3. A nice lady helped me in getting a job for a high end bank.
4. A total stranger paid his last respect during my mum's wake.

I have never seen one. I did stop and help and elderly old lady change a tire. When she pulled a 5 dollar bill from her Bible to pay me I told her no, that the tire changing was a "good deed" for the day. We ended up agreeing to put the money in the plate at church.

Many years ago my car stalled in driving rain. It was in the middle of the road so I had to get off the car and push it to the side. Another car stopped and a lady got off her car and helped me push it to the side. She drove off immediately after I thanked her.

Several days later I met the same girl at a cocktail party. She waved at me and I waved back at her. I was going to excuse myself from my friends so I could speak to her but when I looked back she was gone. Was she my guardian angel?

Peace and blessings!
