Probably not. I understand that in some families, it is custom to have wine or champagne at big dinners or on special occasions. But you have to realize that those are also situations in which there are plenty of adults present, and there is usually good supervision. In that respect it just depends on beliefs. I would probably let my daughter try wine or beer in my presence if I felt that she understood the difference between responsible and irresponsible drinking. However, I don't think that it's a good idea to let a 13 year old drink alcohol casually. Wine coolers may have a low alcohol content, but they are also very easy to overconsume because they don't really taste like alcohol. The fact is that young people especially need to limit drinking because of the effects that alcohol can have on a still developing body and brain.

No...because it's illegal. Laws are made to keep order and keep people from doing harm. Letting a 13 year old drink alcohol even a wine cooler with only 5% alcohol will do harm. Please don't allow it! If it's the 13 year old asking, some things are worth waiting for. Even when you are old enough to drink, you will probably realize what a waste it is to put something in your body that is harmful to it.

It's true that in some other countries, kids as young as 16 are permitted to drink. I agree it decreases alcohol abuse. I let my 16 yr old take a sip of wine or any mixed drink. I would never allow her to get wasted, but I do believe that the more you try and take something away from a kid, they'll just find someone else to let them do it. I'm not saying that everyone should do it, it's permitted in our household, because my husband is Italian and that's the way they are brought up. I can tell you that my daughter is not curious about getting drunk and being stupid.

Absolutely NOT...wine coolers contain as much alcohol as a beer. Not only is it illegal to provide alcohol to a minor - it's a very very unhealthy thing.
At 13 a girl is still developing in body, mind and spirit...why would any "Mother" allow a 13 old drink? Unless she is an alcoholic looking for a drinking buddy?

perhaps

in many other countries it is very normal to allow to children and adolescences have a drink with the FAMILY

it is proven that this actually decreases alcohol abuse and removes the taboo from teenage and early adulthood drinking

my daughter is 5 and i always offer her a sip of my wine....it's a bit much to handle for her but i fully intend to culture her on family dinner and drink

but remember i said this is a FAMILY thing and i am not saying that will allow her to hang with her friends at age 13 and drink wine coolers just cause it's "wine cooler" or Boone's Farm or some crap like that

it is something that would be done with family and only family

No,
not only is it against the law but she's 13 not 18 they say that the earlier that a child drinks alcohol the more likely is that they become alcoholics. Its bad enough that they drink behind our backs and will do god knows what when we aren't around.

I wouldn't even if I were FORCING her to grow up and learn to make adult decisions as a teenager. At 13, I would be teaching her how to cook and clean to the best of her abilities, and encouraging her to juggle finding a job with going to school.

If I wanted to teach her how to drink SOCIALLY (not for purposes of alcohol dependency), I'd wait until she was 16, at least.

well first off its your daughter, not mine, i dont have 1 yet. my opinion to you is sure if your daughter can control herself by knowing her limits of when shes intoxicated or not. if she does, operation of machinery such as a car is not recommended by me. ok back to the drinking, the thing about laws and definition of whats a minor is that it assumes people under certain age have no control over themselves or they cant reason which is not 100% true on both cases. even adults have trouble controlling their intake of alcohol even with laws but anyways do this at your own risk for i am only offering my opinion.
