Didn't the virgin Mary get pregnant out of Wedlock? Seriously, isnt that a blaring contradiction to moses's comandments? Actually I'm not even sure it was consentual. Is god a rapist? Was Mary a single mom?

RE:
The pregnancy of Mary was not the result of sex. The Bible never says anything about pregnancy ever being wrong. It claims that the intimate act of intercourse between a man and a woman without a lifelong commitment is wrong. However; Mary was in a very dangerous position because when she became pregnant (by God - without sex) she would have been judged as an adulterer because nobody would've believed her.

Thats a good point, but that lends me to ask why unwed prgneant women are frowned upon my a majority of christians

RE

I heard today on the radio that three female sharks have been kept in a tank for three years without a male shark being available, yet one of the females had a baby. This shows scientifically that Mary could have also had a baby without "knowing a man", as is in Scriptures. Enough said? :-)
Not really enough said:
"Scientifically" you're saying Mary was a Hermaphrodite? Be cause science wise that the only explanation, or, Jesus has returned as a shark! Or mary was a shark using your logic, or attempt at logic.

If God didn't love you as much as He does, He would cut off your airway and let you beg for air on your way to Hell fire.

But He loves you in spite of your ignorance and childish question. It was for fools like you that Jesus hung in a cross for in order to provide a way to Heaven.

Yes, He hung there for me too.
But at least I'm no longer a fool.

Now, as for your question, you can disregard my answer and every other answer you get tonight.
And know this for sure, if you don't repent of your wickedness and ask God to forgive you, God Himself WILL answer your question on your day of Judgment and you won't like His answer anymore than this one.

Dude,

You need to take an anti-inflammatory!

Yes, the Virgin Mary got pregnant out of wed-lock - but, first of all their was no 'sex' involved - she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit, but it was not by a human process.

Second, although it was not physical in nature, it was consensual! That is why many Christian revere her - her "yes" procured salvation for the whole human race, from Adam to you!

Third, how can God contradict the laws he gave? The Holy Spirit was God, the third person of the Trinity, and was sent by the Father - who gave the commandments to Moses. No commandment of God was violated, on the contrary, the will of God was done perfectly.

Finally, Mary was not a single mom - Jesus was unique - he had two fathers - on earth he had Joseph, who although he was not the biological father, adopted Jesus as if he was - he understood that it was God working in the situation and did not divorce Mary or have her stoned - after all, she did not have pre-marital, nor adulterous relations with any man. She was fulfilling the will of God that the Son of God should take flesh and become man to die for our sins. She also was espoused to the Holy Spirit and Jesus had God the Father for a father - so he had two fathers, one heavenly and one human, and the Virgin Mary had two husbands, one heavenly and one human.

Peace be with you!

Edko you are a dummo.

Yes, Mary was pregnant out of wedlock, but not by a sexual act. No, it is not against Mose's commandments (handed to him by God). The Leviticus laws speak of physical intercourse. Yes, it was consensual as Mary accepted what the Angel told her. No, Mary was not a single Mom. Joseph was Jesus Earthly father.

Considering God created the world out of nothing I think he can handle getting a woman pregnant without any physical act.

According to Christian doctrine, Jesus' conception was miraculous (ie not physical copulation).

34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

It was not even "spiritual rape" because this scripture shows that Mary completely consented to becoming the mother of Jesus:

38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

(Luke 1:34-36)

Added: It's true that Mary would have been frowned upon as a single mother, but only because people would have assumed that she had broken the law of chastity. In our day, I don't think there are many pregnancies that result from a miraculous overshadowing of the Spirit.

Note: Jesus still had a Mum and Dad on earth. He had a stable family unit to be raised in. I believe that people should really think about the welfare of potential children when they make choices in life.

That said, I'm not presuming to be the judge of every single mother on earth. She (and the co-creator of her child) are responsible for their own choices, and the consequences that naturally follow.

NO....Mary didn't get pregnant through any act of physical touch or anything, which is why it's so special....God placed the baby in mary, she became pregnant spiritually, because God chose her, because she was a virgin...God did not communicate to Mary in anyway except through angels, and the words from God are what got her pregnant, throught his power....when Mary found out from the angel that she was to bear God's Son, she was over joyed and ran to see her friend...Joseph and her were to be married and when she got pregnant with Jesus after the angel told her she would be, Joseph was going to divorce her quietly, but the angel appeared to him and told him to take her as his wife, and that she was going to bear God's Son....

Understanding rape as an act of violence in the form of sex, the answer is NO, God is not a rapist.

In the Judeo-Christian moral code, rape is strictly forbidden, and is punishable by death. God would not contradict Himself, and commit an act He had already forbidden.

Furthermore, there WAS NO SEXUAL ACT between God and Mary. While the Greek, Roman, Hittite, and Egyptian pantheons were famous for "god"/human trysts, there was none of this nonsense in Judaism. Temple prostitution was forbidden by law (all prostitution was forbidden by law).

In reading what little history of the exchange between God and Mary (found in the book of Luke), we have at least one record of Mary's consent to carry the saviour. She is recorded as saying "I am happy to serve the LORD. May it be to me as you have said."

No violence, no sex, NO RAPE.

BTW, Mary and Joseph were legally married at the time of Jesus' birth. She was never technically a "single mom"; Jesus was assumed to be Joseph's natural child for a long time!

your asking for a lot of hate mail on this one pal. lol. But according to the bible she "accepted God's will" or whatever so technically no. And she did have Joseph so she wasn't single either. As for wedlock i have no idea though it's rumored she was raped by a roman soldier or something and claimed it was God's child so no one would look down on her. In those days it was the woman's fault if she got raped not the dudes. Pretty messed up huh?
