I agree.
Islam is definitely a religion that was embraced by many cultures worldwide over the past 1400 years.
There is no doubt that culture and tradition has infiltrated into Islamic life and thought, and you are right, people need to understand the difference.
If you ask any 3alem (Muslim scholar), or educated Muslim, they would be able to differentiate between the two. But Western media does not care to separate the two, which is really a shame!

I reverted to Islam last year (they say reverted because they believe when you are born you are born muslim first and then your parents convert you to another religion), and one thing I found out is that culture and religion are inter-twined. When you are muslim, within a muslim community it consumes everything you do (from thinking throughout the day, to maintaining your gaze -so it doesn't fall onto a person lustfully), praying 5X a day keeps you consumed. Muslims are like anybody. They are very charitable (2.5% of your yearly earnings (after all bills and life expenses have been paid), very honourable to everyone and it is a sin to hurt innocent people. But if you are an extremist (a Christian can do alot of damage-hello slavery, etc., and ask Lebanon and Palestine how the Jews are doing), and muslims are no different either. They can read what they want in the Quran to make their argument, but like the bible you have to understand what you read.

As a Muslim woman I thank you for your honesty and willingness to help Islam not appear as horrible as the media makes it out to be. I agree people shouldn't be so ignorant of true facts and should try not to let the media tell them how to think because Muslims aren't terrorists and Islam is not a bad religion.

Culture and Religion are totally 2 different and separate entity - religion is your belief in GOD, culture is the way of life choosen by the ancestor which we opt to follow.
There is NO religion in the world is teaching its follower to be bad neither do culture.
Why when certain people commited something we don't like or we don't understand, we blame the religion or the culture instead of blaming the person himself?

Most definitely. For instance, I live in a country where culture dominates religion but people believe that what they are doing is not cultural but religious in nature. For instance, people don't allow their daughters to get married to a man of other caste; widow's second marriage is considered wrong and bad; women are forced to marry the Holy Quran only to save poperty; a woman can't propose a man because it is considered a taboo; most of the parents don't get consent of their children while marrying them; these and so many other things have got nothing to do with religion but people believe that it's their religious duty to abide by these principles/cultural dogmas.

I am always trying to clarify the difference between cultural and religious practices, especially here on YA and within my family. The media leads everyone to believe that the atrocities committed in Muslim countries are due to the religion when in fact they are not.

I could desire to handle my subculture is extra important & no longer putting shame to the relatives via doing something that's Islamically ideal yet culturally incorrect! in case you attempt to get non secular, they make exciting of you by some ability or doubt you and could desire to locate something incorrect with you. I additionally locate that the adult men think of they could run their better halves and that's suitable! donning the hijab is stable yet once you flow to a occasion they like you to take it off and seem stable. they say song is faulty yet genuinely everyone throws weddings & living house events which contain me, I nevertheless like it as a results of fact i replaced into raised into that subculture. If I marry a Muslim that may not from my u . s . my father will disown me & i'm a shame. They drill it in our minds that it will by no ability artwork. And all the different females mock that female if she does it. i think of the Muslim community desires help!

I love Islam but every country puts their cultural beliefs in it.Ignorants is not one I've seen. The world thinks what it wants.I'm tired of trying to change ppl's point of view for things I don't do.Are they sorry when I go places and don't get help?Or when ppl don't speak back,or make eye contact?I can change the world one person at a time.

A Person who believes a military man famous for his killings and lack of mercy that married 11 times including a child when he was 53 and believes that there are virgins done in heaven for you to have slaves and a sex market, a book horrible to read made in heaven with "scientifi" evidence that was outdated when released in century 6.
People who take prophets of other rleigions and alter their histories with not support whatsoever like Jesus was not crucified but God made us "believe"...
People who believe all the convenient revelations of Mohamed, always to honor him with money, power and pretty women.
People that doesn't puke when read some hardith, for example that one where Mohamed told to kill all the jews that fall in your hands and a man, father of family that did nothing wrong but to give food to Mohamed and their men got killed like a pig while his wife protested, "your belly is for the food my husband had gave to all of you so long" or something like that.
If you insist in dress in the west and in 21st century as you are in Pakistan in Century 6...
If your Mulahs and Imams show the most stupid declarations everyday... I mean...
What can you do for not look like an ignorant? I don't get it. Cause really, no offence but for being a Muslim you have to have a very twisted sense of Humanity and Conscience that no everybody is able to bend.
You don't think that if God wanted to convert us would send a very much more reliable person than Mohamed? A man with no Philosophy, nor metaphysics, no Knoledge, no miracles, no teachings... What MOhamed added to what Jesus brought?
Really...this king already asked it in century 15... and is simply true... You want to believe what you want, then good... but don't blame us for the everyday chrimes of your people...
Why we do respect China, Japan and many Afrtican countries, because they are trustworthy, no crazy people, murders, bigots ready to kill other muslims, women, children or whatever is necesary to acomplish as Mohamed, their goal of the day.
Is my fault this? Can I blame Israel?... Sorry so much, with a neighbour like that, Germany, France or UK would had erased alestine long time ago of the Map...LUCKY YOU ARE...
If you want to say that things that happen in the midle East is not for religion then why all this people always has Allah as the reason for killing, all of them...no matter what... I don't think my God wants such thing at all...
All of You make the word Allah so underrated, is not our fault.
