STOP RIGHT THERE.
Your mother is right.
You are worrying about something that is temporary. Not only are you not overweight--not even a little bit!--but you are only 14. You are still growing and changing. Heck, I'm 18 and I'M still growing!
Now that you are going through puberty, you are going to shoot up like crazy! And I mean, like CRAZY! So DON'T worry about your weight and your height, okay? You could worry yourself into an eating disorder--and those can kill you. Trust me, I've had one, and I almost died. You aren't and will never be anyone else but you. So just relax and love yourself. =)
If you need to, talk to your mother about it more. She is there to love and support you.

Smile and be happy, honey. =)

Hi Emily!

I can resolve your problem. Well, in the first place, you should lose weight if you feel like you are heavy, but do not do it for the wrong reasons. You can certainly lose weight, but not a lot. I would go for a limit of 5 lbs. then if you still feel bad about your weight, then loose another 5, but if I were you, 10 is my limit. I'm 5'9 and I weigh 170, and I am planning this summer to make a complete turnaround: I want to lose about 20 lbs. (at least, that's what I think is reasonable for my height). I think you should listen to your mom for now, but if you feel uncomfortable w/ your weight, talk to your doctor and he/she will give you a range of weight loss, if you need to loose weight. Also, if he/she gives you about 5 lbs, go to the gym once in a while, eat healtier, and stay active... It will give you more muscle, less fat, and a better looking body. Good luck in your future!

Sincerely,
racecar21

you can lose weight healthy way. what teens shouldnt do is starving yourself when your body needs nutrients the most.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Don't lose weight. I'm 5'0 and I'm 115, which is completely healthy and normal for my size.

Don't become a stick figure. Guys don't like that anyway, despite what you might think.

If you diet... you're going to look unhealthy.
