Can gas cause chest pain?

Question

I have been having constant chest pain sinc Friday. It feels like there is a fist pressing on my breast bone, makng it hard to get enough breath some times.

My grandmother and my bf say it is gas. My friend says it is probably anxiety.

Can gas cause chest pain?

oh..btw..I have a dr appoint for this coming Friday.

though i feel silly about going if it turns out it is just gas.

Yes. The pain can be severe enough to mimic a heart attack. Gas accumulating in the splenic flexure of the colon can cause painful distention that is referred to the chest. Some people get immediate relief after passing gas or after a bowel movement. Distention of the hepatic flexure is less common, but can cause similar symptoms.

Pain can be referred to the chest from gall bladder disease. Passing excessive gas and belching are symptoms. Then there's gastric reflux with esophagitis. The list grows longer.

I was prescribed Lansoprazole which was brilliant but after two years of aching joints, extreme muscle pain which the doc gave me cortisone jags for, with some research I discovered the drug Lansoprazole was causing these rare side effects but it was I who diagnosed it NOT my doctor, I came off the drug 2 months ago, changed my diet and discovered just eating an apple stops any acid reflux, I eat an apple before bed, brilliant no acid, any time I feel the slightest sign of reflux I simply eat an apple.

YES, it can. my old boss had mri's done on her chest pain - she thought she was having a heart attack and they found it was huge gas bubbles.

I would think that it was possible. I had the same feeling awhile back and the doctor gave me medicine for acid reflux and the feeling went away.
