I have used many online translators with many different results and when re-translating the word back to English it gives me some other word, the only one that I've found thats been translated about 50% of the time is "Wimmern".

I would say 'toll' (= great, wonderful) is the equivalent of 'wow'. You hear it all the time in that context.

'Wow' isn't really a meaningful word, that's the problem! For German try 'Ach so!' or 'Ausgezeichnet!' ['Excellent!']

There's also 'Donnerwetter!' ['Thunderweather!'] which is used more like OMG or in response to something bad.

Hmm...that's all I remember from German class!
