Wait until you no longer need your parents consent. When you're old enough and mature enough to get it on your own, then you should consider it. There are enough people out there who regret their tats. Don't be one of them. Think about it long and hard because it's permanent.

if they havent said no yet just ask them if they have then explain to them that tattoos are not all bad and thats its an expression of art [if they care about art] tell them that ur not gonna get nothin that would prevent you from getting a job in the future...nothing that would be obscene or anything like that. Describe that tattoo or even show them a picture and see how it goes.

Wait until you're 18 and go get it on your own.

My mom hates my tattoos, but since I waited until I was 18 she knew she couldn't tell me no. My dad paid for two of my tattoos (18th and 21st birthday presents). If you must talk to them about it just explain your reasoning and that you're really sure about what you want.

The only acceptable age for tattooing is 18. At 18 you do not need your parents' permission.

It depends on how they feel about tattoos. My husband is against them and when my son talked to him he started out by saying...."Dad, I know you aren't a fan of tattoos, so this is why I am telling you that I am thinking about getting one." "I wanted to be upfront and honest with you so that you are not shocked when I DO get one" "I COULD have never told you, but you are open with me and now I want to be open with you." It was really wonderful. His father had respect for what my son did. He was actually proud of him and now is ok with the tattoo my son is going to get.

Wait until you're old enough to make the decision yourself. I never would advocate a minor getting a tattoo.

Trust me, waiting until you don't need their permission is best.
