The bible says there is no fear in love, but then it also warns us to fear God so the god of the old testamnent can't possibly be God if the NT God is love.
Christians, your beliefs are so inconsistent.
Gotta love ya, though.

The fear of God is the same as one would have for their earthly father. Where fears changes is when you did something wrong.
They say Mothers are gift to the world? Mine was God's hand of wrath.

Believers are not to be “scared” of God. We have no reason to be scared of Him. We have His promise that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39). We have His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Fearing God means having such a reverence for Him, that it has a great impact on the way we live our lives. The fear of God is respecting Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshipping Him in awe.

God is an angry, wrathful & jealous God that expects perfection from His creation. As humans we are not able to be perfect; that is why we must fear Him. This is the Law or the Bad News.
But He is also perfectly just & merciful. He took all the wrath He had stored up for us sinners out on His own Son, Jesus Christ, so that we need not fear Him if we trust that the Jesus of the Bible fulfilled the Law & atoned for our sin in His suffering, death & resurrection. This is the Gospel or Good News.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom & discipline." Proverbs 1:7
"The fear of the Lord leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble." Prov. 19:23
".... But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment...." 1 John 4:18
The fear of the Lord leads to life, not because by fear we are able to keep His Commandments (Ex.20:1-20), but because His Commandments show us our sin & helplessness to save ourselves from our own sin & the sin of others, death & the lies of Satan, so we finally repent & ask God for help for Jesus' sake.

The fear is not of God of myself in that I would choose to reject God.

I don't fear him I respect him and choose not to follow him because I don't agree with his religion. Why should I follow somone so judgmental and egotistical. You call him all loving and yet he banishes people to hell and descriminates against women and gays and countless others. So while I respect the power he may have in other people's lives I do not want him as a part of my life. He is the very deffinition of hypocrisy.

Fear means respect - God can love you and you can at the same time respect and acknowledge who he is - all powerful and all loving as well.

I believe fearing God means:
"to be in awe of or reveret"
I DO NOT BELIEVE it means to be "afraid of" :)
People take the "fear God" thing and turn it into what works for them. I am not afraid of God. I am in awe and I am reverent

it really means respect him. But you should fear him because he is the most powerful tihng ever. He is so awsome that he can flood the earth, create the whole world, and make it possible to walk through water. Fear him because of his power. Respect him because of his greatness and the fact that he loves you.

I love my dad, but I'm scared to disappoint him or if I got arrested at 16, I would fear his wrath, so why not the same w/ our Father in Heaven?
