The best bike is the bike that fits you and your needs. Go to your local bike shop and have them fit you. They can then recommend bikes in your size, price range and that fit your riding needs. Without being fit it doesn't matter what the brand is, it's not gonna be the best ride for you.

Good luck!

Hey Remz,

In my opinion I would by a TREK 820 if you just want to try out Mountain Biking. It has a front suspension shock and good components that would be a great start for mountain biking. It is made of high tensile steel and carries a lifetime warranty on the frame.

Kona, GT and Giant all have outstanding beginner bikes to choose. I like the TREK for the components and great customer service. Go to your Local Bike Shop and take a few bikes for a test ride. You will find that each brand and model of bike will feel different. Make sure you get the right size frame for your body type. Choose a bike you feel comfortable riding. Try and stay away from Walmart/Target bikes. You will be SORRY if you purchase a cheap bike from Wally Mart. Buy from a professional bike shop. JMO Hope this helps. = )
