So, ive realized my dog does something really interesting. When my roommate or anyone else comes to my house (and im not there) hes very quiet and doesnt acknowlegde them.

However, when i come home he freaks out and barks up a storm and begs for attention! But, heres where it gets weird.. when im here.. and anyone comes to the door.. he does the same thing to them!

Its like hes putting on a show for mommy lol.. any idea why he would acknowledge other people coming over when im here.. but completely ignore them while im gone?

Not so complicated. Your dog is being territorial. This is bad as he is claiming you as territory. You should be in charge, you be the alpha, not your dog. This behavior your dog is displaying is bad behavior. You allow that and the dog develops even worse behavior, suddenly you have a problem dog. You need to enroll yourself and the dog in a good obedience class. This will teach you about dog behavior and how to teach your dog.

Is your dog a small or toy breed?

This type of behaviour is very common in dogs that I fondly refer to as 'small, white and fluffies'. These types of dogs are extremely protective of their owners and engage in lots of attention seeking behaviour from their owners.
I have a client's dog who will attack me if she is with her owner but away from her owner she is happy for me to pick her up and hold her.

With this type of behaviour it might be helpful to work with a professional dog trainer, but in the meantime, simply ignore your dog's antics and when he is beautifully behaved and quiet give him a treat and quiet praise - nothing to enthusiastic as you don't want to hype him up. You may find that his show antics will increase in the short term, but should disappear when he learns that he gets no attention until he is beautifully behaved.

He's not putting on a show he's greeting you home. Your his owner and he's very happy to see YOU.
As far as him barking when you are home than he's protecting you from strangers. He's doing his job by allerting you to someone at the door or someone coming into the house.
He's being a good boy mom!
