When I visited my brother, he was briefly a unitarian and he invited me to go along.

The service was on how great pets are and they brought in dogs, cats, birds, and did a little blessing for them.

I'm not making this up.

Do funerals count?

My great uncle died a few months ago, and as my mom's side of the family is black, church services are always (at the very least) entertaining. Even funerals.

The reverend was a fairly young guy, lots of energy. And while I was sitting there waiting to burst into flames (a joke my Lutheran bf tells when I walk into a church) listening to the rev., I found myself really liking his message. I could see how comforting his sermons would be.

Basically, instead of saying goodbye, he said that no one in his family ever says goodbye. It's always, "I'll see you later." And he was saying the same thing about death. It was actually quite moving, and he brought me to tears. And I barely knew my great uncle.

I can see why religion is such a powerful thing. Sadly, my logical brain just doesn't gel well with it.

An Assembly of God Church in Kansas, shortly after my conversion to atheism but before I became Buddhist. The message was about how sin kept people from god and the different ways that manifested in Earthly life. Apparently, the only reason I'm epileptic because I'm a sinner and can't get closer to god because of it. I wanted to get up and walk out, but I was sitting next to the wall and the hubby threatened to sit on me.

Our Pastor is in the middle of Romans right now. Last week he delivered a sermon on Romans 6, on coming to terms with our sin.

He will be concluding next week, and taking a break from Romans for the summer - and resuming in September.... very interesting stuff.

As a side note - last week he put a box at the back of the sancuary and encouraged us to put "sermon suggestions" for the summer weeks in the box. Should be an interesting summer indeedy.

blessings lappy! :)

An earthquake happened and some jail doors swung open. And a Tarot card reader lady stopped seeing the future. And everyone has to kick in some cash for the Pentecost flowers next weekend.

Strangely enough, it was around the time I came out of the broom closet, and the sermon was about how evil witchcraft was and how Satan's always trying to decieve people. I can't help but to think that it was aimed specifically at me.
