I like my Bushmaster M4 ..... only had one problem with a jam using that CRAP Wolf ammo with the metalic casing ..... other then that I love it.

The Armalite AR-15. Try using Winchester .223 55 Grain Full Metal Jacket rounds. That Wolf Ammo isn't really designed for gas rifles like the beloved AR-15 or M-4.

Gunplumber is correct, there is no such thing as a civilian assault rifle, that's just redundant. Assault rifles are selective fire rifles chambered for intermediate rifle cartridges. Your XM-15 (I assume) is just a plain ol' semi-automatic rifle.
To the question,
I have a Bushmaster XM-15 myself and absolutely love it. However for more accuracy I'd prefer an M16A2 style rifle. I think that the AR-15 series are some of the best civilian military style rifles around.

Rugar Mini 14. It a great gun and you can customize it any way you want. From a old time looking gun to a modern day military rifle. If you did get a mini 14 for your personal defense rifle make sure you buy the ammo called TAP. That's the kind of bullet where if you live in an apartment and you shoot someone it want pass through him and go into your neighbors room and hit them. Well good luck!!

If you want to add distance with knockdown power, then an AR-10 would be even better. 308 is a great cartridge, and you can usually find case allotments at a good price.
