needless to say, the two wars illustrate what occurs once you fail to take account the values, lifestyle and morals of the persons you decide on for to "shop." the two wars are Orwellian in that they do no longer probable serve any objective different than to harm culmination of the financial gadget that could desire to receive to the staff. Iraq is extra frightening in that we choose the oil we declare we are no longer combating for. So, it is going to be extra stable to shrink & run in Iraq. on the different hand if we shop spending $10 billion income line with month our usa would be destroyed from interior of. In Vietnam casualties have been a lot greater; whether, there replaced into extra reporting on the subject of the conflict. additionally, because of the fact that there replaced right into a draft there replaced right into a stable protest circulate. no one cares approximately Iraq or might even sign a petition enable a lone march down the line. In Iraq our troups are "volunteers' and prefer McCain says they are able to combat and die for yet another one hundred years and no-one will care a lot approximately it. yet, the troops pay a adverse cost. partly beuasse of extra valuable scientific technologies, troops go through an exteremely intense cost of head injuries from IEDs. The lesson of the two wars are the Powell Doctrine: do no longer pass to conflict till you're waiting to place each and every thing into prevailing becuase prevailing is that significant which needless to say it extremely isn't any longer in Iraq. confident. there are a number of unhappy similarities between the two wars. ********************************** In examining the comments above the lack of expertise displayed is shameful. people who do no longer remember historic past are condemned to repeat it.

This war makes Vietnam look like a party!
Both are pointless
both had no direction
both included defending people that could care less about us
both gained nothing in the end

Totally different in almost every respect.
Iraq Desert and dense urban / Vietnam Jungle and spread urban.
Iraq professional full time soldiers / Vietnam drugged up draftees (apologies to the full timers there who were dragged down by the stoners)
Iraq has European and other armies involved / Vietnam was the U.S Australia and South Korea
Iraq no one listens to pointless hollywood celebs spouting off / Vietnam ...no-one questioned Jane Fonda's qualifications to speak on international affairs.
etc etc etc

They are alike. I wasn't around for the vietnam war, but I have to imagine that people felt then alot what they feel like today. Like this is a war of choice. If 9/11 was in fact because of Bin Laden, and he was from Afganastan, then why did we bomb Iraq? On the theory they have weapons of mass distruction. We know Korea does and that doesn't mean we will bomb them.
It seems like an injustistice to the familys of 9/11 that the person who was labled responsible for it hasn't been brought to justice, and I for one would like to know how we leaped from Bin Laden, to Sadam.

Vietnam: 58,000 American Troops dead, 1.5mil Vietnamese soldiers, women and children dead. 70-75% Americans against Iraq war. Both wars brought on by false pretexts: Vietnam had the Gulf of Tonkin lie. It's now declassified that no American ships were attacked(google it)
Iraq had the lies of Al-CIAeda cells being sponsored there, LIE.
Iraq had WMD's, LIE.

They really are quite dissimilar. There are far more differences than similarities.
Yea, the average American can't pronounce the enemies name or where they are located at. Vietnam and Iraq really only have one similarity. The media bias undermining the military. Beyond that nothing. They have far more dissimilarities.

Another Vietnam. Pretty simple. Should have got out of there as soon as Sadam was captured.

You can't compare..Apples or apples, pears are pears. viet nam war was one, Iraq is another.. the only comparison is lives are taken and some people agree to it while others disagree. The one thing I do not want our troops to see is people back home not supporting them like they did with the Viet Nam soldiers..

this is worse,we never learned the lesson the last time.
they were right when they say history has a way of repeating itself,,,is it because the word history has the word 'story' in it?and story's are meant to be retold and passed on?
