There are several reasons that you pay more for Bulldog puppies. The primary being the fact that bulldogs are not easy to breed. It is rare to find a male that can naturally mount a female (due to body structure), and a female that can whelp her puppies without a c-section (due to big heads). What this means is there is several steps, and a lot of veterinary expense, and special paperwork, just to get your female pregnant. I am talking, target testing to see if the female is ready, semen extraction from the male, once she is ready, artificial or surgical implantation, and regular check ups and ultra sounds to make sure all is well. Providing all went well you still have the c-section, and the pup checks to make sure all are healthy, and there are none that need immediate veterinary attention, or require medication (bulldog puppies have a high mortality rate, and bulldogs are known to have water puppies). Now you get to take your sleepy mom and her new litter home. Where you get to play mom for the first 2 wks, as bulldogs have a tendency to non intentionally squash their babies. So for 2 wks you are up every two hours putting puppies in with mom so they can feed. You sit and watch while they feed, making sure that all is well, none are in danger, and they are all eating well, so you do not end up having to bottle feed. Hopefully your female has enough, and good milk or you end up feeding several puppies, or the whole litter. All this time and expense, and you may only have a litter of 2-4 puppies, or you can lose the whole litter and have to wait for your females next cycle to try all over again. This is the main reason why Bulldogs are so expensive.
Bulldogs are not a breed for those wanting to make quick money raising dogs, they require a lot of time, and expense for proper care.

Some of these reasons sound logical, but American Bulldogs are the one's with big heads. English bulldogs are more short and very wide/stocky. They do have breathing issues.
I was at my friend's house, just last night, and his dog was grunting uncontrollably. My friend said that his name "Harley" is perfect for him, because he overheats easily. After he was playing with the pitbull and chasing a ball, he could only breathe through his mouth. It was VERY loud and made a grunting type of sound. I thought it was funny.
Harley is quite the character. Cool personality. He is sharp too. The pitbull "Duke" was easily tricked when I would fake throwing the ball, but Harley knew exactly where it was the whole time.
I'll say one thing though, that bulldog is full of determination. Tug-of-War: forget it! That dog will not release for anything. And it's funny that he looks like such a small dog, but is so compact he is actually very heavy. His center of gravity is matched only by Barry Sanders.

Well, first this is a breed with tons of health problems. So, a breeder needs to test their breeding stock for lots of genectic conditions. Also, the vet bills for these dogs is very high, so the breeder may be trying to re-coup some of that cost.
Second, bulldogs can't have puppies naturally. Man has screwed them up so bad, the only way they can give birth is with a C-section. That's expensive.
And, to top it off, English bulldogs are popular, so breeders can get the high prices they ask.

Well because the breeders end up spending so much time...and MONEY breeding their english bulldog. Bulldogs have large heads and cannot be born unless the owner brings them to the vet. They are VERY difficult dogs to breed, but VERY VERY cute.
If you are actually looking to get one you can possibly find a cheaper one. Someone may have a 1 yr old bulldog theyr selling and since its older they may only charge around $500...if youre trying to find one check around. Someone is bound to have one cheaper.

English Bulldogs are companies to all varieties of wellness issues and maximum could desire to be born by way of c-area through fact they have such extensive heads. i may be fairly suspicious of any for only $1000 through fact the breeder has probable no longer invested a acceptable quantity into genetic screening, vet care, and so on. to no longer point out the time and money it expenses to maintain those canines. $1000 is only a drop in the bucket whilst in comparison with that. That suggested, figuring out to purchase for a canines consistent with fee is particularly silly. in case you like the main inexpensive canines, bypass to the shield and undertake a canines or puppy there. they're going to be healthful, stunning and grateful. in case you have your coronary heart set on a purebred canines, do your homework, discover the breed that fits your needs superb and then save up till you should purchase one from a solid breeder or communicate over with a breed rescue. Going for the 1st affordable purebred you come across is barely going to get you a million) a canines that probable isn't a solid adventure for you, and a couple of) a number of of of vet costs through fact he/she got here from a puppy mill or outdoor breeder.

This is a breed that cannot breed without human intervention. Artificial insemination and cesarian section are the norm (look at the size and shape of the head and you will see why the bitches cannot push the pups out)
All these vetting fees are going to be passed along. Anyone willing to go to all this trouble and expense is probably a professional breeder, whose dogs are health tested and certified, have been shown and proven to be breed standard, etc; that will also rightly add to the final price of the pups.

basically it's because there are people who like to make money for what they have.
Tehy do cost a little more due to quite often they need to have c-sections and the pups need a little extra care due to there breathing problems.
My sister just got an old english bulldog for my daughter for $500 that's compared to teh normal $1200=$2500 normal in my area.
It has nothing to do with being a reputable breeder but the cost of raising a pup is not cheap. First the mother eats more
they should start worming at 2 weeks old and start shots at 6 weeks and all this as well as the extra food and time put in they do cost some and if you need a c-section boy are they expensive.
Ihonestly have no idea why people charge the high prices other than they are money hungry and people are suckers and pay the prices.
Baby is sucha sweetheart and i love her but I would never pay those outrages prices and neither would my sister

Beacause they are very difficult and expensive to breed. Because of the large head the mother almost always has to have a c-section for the birth which is very costly. Hence that cost will be passed on to the buyer of the pups.

Because they are awesome and in the 1940's they killed off English Bulldogs to where they were almost at an extinct because they were thought to be dangerouse becasue they could kill a bull by themself. So there really aren't that many around yet today. They are just an expensive jewel, but well worth it.
