Our bride just moved to another state (Texas), but the wedding will be back here in California but not at home, down south about 5 hours. So we will be travelling into town a few days before the wedding, and all the guests will shortly be arriving also.

There just won't be time for a full out bridal shower, so we are trying to think of fun alternatives?

All ideas (positive) welcome!

Thanks so much!

I will be coming from out of town -- and I don't know the area at all.

I have been to restaurant bridal showers and they are just as fun. You don't have to do the games---which is a good thing. Everyone has a loud chatty time, and the bride still gets to open gifts. The restaurant can make a cake or you can bring one from a bakery. Go to a place everyone can afford.

Well here are some suggestions for who ever is going to plan the bridal shower:

Check if there is a Golf Course in the area: sometimes they'll give a discount for groups or special occasions. . Especially if your party is allowed a "drink" cart. This can also be a shower for both the bride and groom. This make for fun times
Since the wedding is out of town for everyone.

PJ's : Have guests arrive in the evening dressed in their PJ's. The evening is filled with manicures, pedicures, facials and massages, and lots of girl talk!

Well:
Using a deep basket decorated in the wedding colors ask everyone to bring an additional item for the bride to put in the "Well". It should be something small like a hand held can opener, note pads, pens, garlic press, staple remover, etc.. Also have everyone write a little note with a warm wish or greeting to the bride AND the groom

Bar B Que: There's usually a park with a grill and if the weather is nice this could be something for the bride and groom to enjoy with their loved ones. Or if this is strictly for the ladies maybe a picnic with alot of girl talk

Beach: This could also be a fun day in the sun for the soon to be bride. A day at the beach for the bride and her girls.

Just thought i'd give suggestions outside of the box.

Good Luck!

However you end up doing the shower, keep in mind that the bride may be feeling overwhelmed from planning her wedding from a distance, so remember to keep arrangements simple and easy for her - and you!

She will most likely be missing her girls too, having just moved away from you all. This is a great opportunity to shower her with your appreciation and support.

Create a bit of circle quiet time during the gathering to go around and each say one or all of the following:
*one thing you love about the bride
*one thing you wish for the bride
*one thing you've learned about relationships or marriage that you want to pass on to the bride

This way you can mix a bit of bonding into the celebration, and it's a special something the bride will always remember.

Have fun!

As maid of honor, I was in the same situation last summer. I threw together a quickie bridal shower and it was the MOST fun!

Invite people through e-vite (it's free and easy and quick - all you need is email addresses). Then come up with 2 or 3 games and get or make a cake. The more informal and loose it is, the more fun people have. They don't want to be held captive for 3 hours going through tons of games and junk.

I usually just wrap two gifts and label them shower and wedding when I am from out of town. You could do a shower lunch but the bride might be too busy for that. All you out of towners could get together, buy a laundry basket and fill it with towels, soaps, lotions, perfume, etc and put a bow on it. Shower gifts for a shower present. Kind of fun.

I'm not sure exactly where you are but you could go to a hot spring/spa area somewhere and just relax. Also if you wanted to get a little crazier you could go to a casino, a lot of them now have full service spas, hotels, bars, etc. Have Fun!!!

I would do a spa day. Take the girls, go get a massage, get your nails done and then go out to lunch. After lunch the girls could go back to the brides house (or hotel) and open gifts and have cake (you could call ahead and order this). Have a blast!

Why don't you just not have one? You're gonna get all the presents at your wedding anyway, right? Why make people buy 2?
