She sems content, staying close to me at all times, purring. Doesn't seem to be in pain. She has had many litters, some of them long, drawn-out affairs, some quick. She is 11 years old. the last few litters have had only 1 or 2 kittens. Last time the first one was born dead, second kitten was fine. i think she's probably tired. i'll try massaging her belly, teets, and see if there's a change. What about phenylanalyne to help jump-start labor again, or pennyroyal tea? Any advice other than go to a vet? I tried to have her spayed, but the vet said her breathing stopped after sedation when she was laid on her back, so he didn't perform the surgery. Something in her lungs that didn't respond to antibiotics. She's on my lap as I type this. I don't have the money to spend on a vet, and our locals do not make payment arrangements under any circumstances!

This can be very serious. Given her age, the kittens may be stuck and if this is the truth then the kittens may die and her too. Keep on rubbing the belly and try to induce the labor. Do you know how to palpate? Put your cat on her back and start to feel around for the babies. This way you can check which way the kittens head is. If at all possible, if the kitten that is lowest is backwards, turn it around gently by moving your hands and turning it so the head is downwards.

Labour doesn't stop just because the mother is tired, and if nothing has happened as long as 24 hours after her waters break then she really must see a vet, no excuses.
The people who said cats also purr when distressed are telling the truth; the purr means 'I am no threat to you' and is used in a number of different situations including after they have been hit by a car. Cats that have been hit by a car are not purring from contentment.

Your cat really needs veterinary help.Cats respond differently to meds to us. Aspirin kills them. Valium makes them manically excited. Don't dose your cat with anything, there is nothing you can do to restart labour but there are two simple things your vet can do.

Put her in a cat box and take her to the vets or phone the RSPCA and ask for help.

I wouldn't give her anything, you should really phone the vets, she's an old cat
you can phone a charity vet P.D.S.A. or R.S.P.C.A,
or THE BLUE CROSS, they help people that don't have any money,BATTERSEA DOGS HOME also have a cat's help as well. you need to help her, keep her warm, and go to a vet because she is in a dangerous situation, the kittens could be dead, round the wrong way, and her own life is in danger
of infection and if the kittens are dead they could poison her,
Change vets, if you don't go to work, are on benefits, the above charities will help you
I hope your cat gets well soon and find out why she can't be spayed. get a second opinion.

i totally understand the vets where i live are the exact same way they want all the money up front right away please and now or leave !!

just keep a eye on her i guess -- as there is probably nothing that you can do with out being a vet yourself..

giving her any tea or medicine may kill her and her kitten right now i wouldnt do any of that at all

RSCPA is a good idea

Have you ever heard of reflexology? Apparently all a living beings main organs can be stimulated from the bottom of your foot. Try massaging her paws, ( not literally as if giving a proper massure,) but its worth a try, you never know it might just be the stimulation she needs. Although if a womans waters breaks they are not allowed to go 24 hours after doing so, risk of infection to them & their unborn. Bless, hope all works out for her. Good luck my feline friend.

Cats purr when they are happy, but they also purr when they are in pain. very often a cat will purr as he or she dies. I would call the vet. They won't charge you for the phone call. They might be able to give you some instructions of what to do over the phone.

I hope your kitty is ok, and has happy healthy babies.

You should bring your cat to the vet immediately. There is probably something going wrong that needs to be checked out. Worst case scenario there could be a baby stuck in the canal. I have seen it happen and if not treated in time, the babies will die and eventually will lead to the mother dying.

she should have had something bye now.
at 11 she shouldn't be pregnant. if she can't be spayed she should be confined.
If you cant afford her she should be turned over to someone who can it's against the law not to get treatment for your cat. you cold at least callteh vet and ask them what you can do. they know the cat and can give you a better idea once the water breaks tehy should be coming.
