I live in LA, and grew up in Portland. I can tell you without a doubt, LA is more expensive. I love going back up to Portland, everything is much cheaper there, housing, gas, food, beer, even clothing. On the flip side of it, wages and salaries are much lower in Portland, and work is more scarce. I make double, close to triple the amount of money in LA, then I would in Portland for the same sort of work. Which is another reason LA is so expensive becuase of the higher paying jobs.

This has to be a homework question, right? Everyone knows
that is an adult, that LA is one of the most expensive places
in the US to live. Anytime you have a minimum of land available due to overpopulation, prices will be at a premium.
On the west coast, you've got LA, as the highest, then San
Francisco or San Diego, and Seattle and then Portland.
From all my info, NY has got to be the most expensive city in the US to live. Why just a small apt, that is a studio you can expect to pay well over a $1,200 a month or even more than that. I saw a program last year where a typcial apartment was only one small room with a tiny bathroom off of it. Why you had to inch sideways to get from one area to another. Basically a bedroom with a few corner areas for kitchenette, living area (small loveseat space and table). IT was claustrophobic. Next to NY I'd guess there are some Florida coastal cities that rank way up there for cost factors. But lots of retired New Yorkers move down there to live out their days. But those are the rich ones.

L.A. is for sure more expensive then Portland, in my opinion from a native Oregonian is the whole west coast just like the east coast is overpriced. I finally left the northwest after 33 years and me and my husband headed for Houston where the job market is alot better then the northwest and the price of homes is a 100 percent cheaper then the west or east coast.

Is this question a joke"? Los Angeles is one of the MOST expensive places to live in the United States. Possibly only New York City is more expensive.

Check out www.moving.com/Find_a_Place/Cityprofile/index.asp
The city profile report will help you to find a place to live where you will fit in and feel at home. This city profile report provides a detailed look at the people, places, and conditions in an area: useful information on demographics, finances and economics, real estate, and other factors which may impact the quality of life. The city profile report data is drawn from an array of sources, and is updated at least once a year:
* U.S. Census Bureau estimates and projections, including latest monthly estimates for population at the city level.
* Bureau of Labor for employment data by industry and occupation.
* Internal Revenue Service statistics on tax filers and year-to-year migration.
* Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police departments and municipalities for crime information.
* National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for weather information.

LA is more expensive. Take it to the bank, unless you live in LA, then you wont have the money to take to the bank.
