As other posters have mentioned, there are several ear mite treatments that are very effective. Be sure to give follow treatments every 5 days for 3 treatments. Also, be sure to give a thorough bath with a either a Mycodex with Carboryl from your vet or with a citrus based shampoo. Particularly be sure to lather the inner ear flap as well as the outer ear and surrounding head area. Use cotton balls inside each ear to prevent getting the inner ear wet. Rinse very thoroughly until no shampoo is visible down the drain and blow dry with your hand dryer.
After 3 mite treatments and two baths, you should see a significant difference. Poodles tend to produce a lot of oil in their ear. Dab a swab with a small amount of rubbing alcohal and gently wipe the inner ear weekly. It well help to keep the ear clean of wax and oil.
Edit:
A number of posters have recommended taking the dog to the vet. The vet next door to our grooming shop sends the dogs to us rather than treat at his office. If the inner ear hair gets too greasy, it needs to be pulled and he does not like to do that. Removal of ear hair, cleaning with alcohal before the bath becomes our job, then.

Have you taken him to the vet? Are you sure its mites and not an infection or allergy? Over the counter mite meds are not good. You need to see the vet and have them prescribe something for the dog.
Itchy ears are often caused by poor nutrition. What are you feeding the dog? If there are more then 2 grains listed in the first 5 ingredients, switch to a better food.
When dogs are full of toxins from crapinabag, the skin and ears and eyes are a mess. These are outlets for your dog to rid himself of the toxins you might be putting unkowingly into his bowl.
Clean the dog from the inside out with the best nutrition money can buy and you will see a change.

Ear mites, honestly are not all that common in dogs, but a simple ear exam by the vet can determine it..
Causes of itchy ears, are commonly due to infection, or either secondary infection because of a allergy,
We get stuffy noses when our allergies bother us, dogs show allergies as itcky skin,
With poodles, most do have ear in their ears, that does need to be plucked out on a regular basis, and is a regular gooming need particular to this breed,, failure to do so often leads ear infections..
The end result is, off to the vet, have the ears examined, determine the cause.. using a over the counter me for mites if there are none, at least will not work, at worst possibly damage her ears if there is a more serious cause for her ear toubles..
A vet can recommend approperate treatment, depending what is going on
good luck

I would go to the vet. I was sure my little Pepper had them and then Bandit had the same problem so I was doubly sure. Just to be on the safe side though I took them to the vet and sure enough they both had an ear infection. The treatment for ear mites may of made it even worse.

my dog used to have this same problem. go to the vet and get some medication to get rid of the mites first. once they are all gone and his ears are healed make a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar and apply once a week to the ears. this should keep them away for good. has worked for my dog for about 3 years now. good luck!

If the vet diagnosed ear mites, you would have gotten medication to take care of it.
If you are self diagosing ear mites....don't. He could have an ear infection in which case he'll need antibiotics.
Make an appointment with the vet, have them see if it's mites or an infection and then let them give you the proper medication.

You can get over the counter ear mite treatments from most pet stores. Also, try using 100% cotton to clean his ears. Many cotton balls are made with a synthetic material that can be very abrasive on the skin.

Try going to your local pet store, you can buy drops to put into the ear a few times a day and it gets rid of them. My house mate i used to live with, his dog had them and it was awful. they seem to be in alot of pain and yet they scratch them until it bleeds. But try a pet store they will be able to help.
Good Luck!
