What would be the point? Who would gain anything significant from making up global warming?

Baby3330 if you're so clever why don't you answer my question or is it a bit difficult for you?

I would just like to clarify my position - I believe climate change is a direct result of man's interference and pollution. I was making a point that why would anyone invent the concept of climate chage? As opposed to the many reasons that people would deny that climate change is real, detrimental and as a direct result of man's actions.

We all benefit by making global warming an issue. Much good can be brought to the world by using the scare tactic of global warming. What's at stake is right now is integrity and the scientific method. Science is based on the scientific method and not on consenses. For any hypothesis, there is going to be an antithesis. This is how reason works.

There are still some questions that need to be resolved on the global warming issue. One is, why is global warming also taking place on the planet Mars which is also have a melting of it's ice caps? What does the high sun spot activity mean? Why are there more storms on Jupitar? There were times of high CO2 levels in earths early history and CO2 levels only came down during the event of large animal life on earth. The reduction was quite slow so high oxygen levels and low C02 is a recent phenomena considering the overall history of the earth.

We still don't know if the earth's magnetic feild is ready for a re-polarisation which is due every 100,000 years. This may be the time. It has nothing to do with Mankind.

What causes plate tectonics? What caused the ice age?

I'm all for alternative fuel and going green. I think we have enough reasons to do this without going into psuedo-science.
The current "global warming movement" has the danger of discrediting the entire environmental cause. That is why so many scientists are starting to speak out.

We have real issues like saving the rain forests, re-forestation, wildlife and nature preservation, alternative energy sources etc. and this global warming psuedo science is making all the green movements into fools like the emporer wearing no clothes, the global warming theory has too many holes. It was not ready to present to the world yet. Unfortunately, the movie came out before the science was sufficiently up to date.

Sadly, already in a quandry, we can't call it "global warming" but may have to call it "global climate change." This is because the facts are not corresponding to the model. Yet questions arise as to how much is actually a natural earth cycle that is dependent on the sun spot activity and cosmic rays.

I assure you that I'm not being paid by the oil companies. I'm as liberal as one can get, perhaps further left than most liberals. Science is my only belief.

Some examples of reasons to invent global warming:

1. You are a researcher in a related feild (e.g. you want to research electric cars) and require funding for your research, so a pertinent reason like 'to reduce global warming' might get you the funding you need, hence you invent a theory of global warming to get funding.

2. You are an environmentally friendly company, such as in the hydropower industry, manufacturer of power saving light bulbs, installer of household soalr panels. Something like the threat of global warming increases the marketability of your product and hence your profits, so it is also in your interests to invent the theory.

3. You work in the health industry and want to encourage the use of bikes. Something like global warming just adds one more reason to use bikes. As this is a health rather than money-driven issue, it's unlikely you would actually invent a theroy for it, however you might support the theory even though you believe it's not true, because it fits your agenda.

4. You are an environmental theorist, and you want to make a new and groundbreaking discovery, and even if you don't belive it to be true, you have enough evidence to back up a theory and flair to elaborate on it, so you put it forward to gain kudos.

Also, global warming is a theory so strictly speaking it has to have been made up. That's what theories are.
The evidence for it may be overwhelming (or not depending what you beleive), but, like Einstein's theory of relativity, for which there is far more substantial evidence, it is only a theory.

I don't think it would benefit anyone to makeup global warming. I imagine the skeptics might say that democrats or "dirty liberals" are making up global warming to 'scare America' into...I don't know...voting for them? This makes no sense since we've all been taught about global warming in science classes from second grade through college. That would mean that all of our teachers and scientists are part of the democrats plan. A lot of republican interests are invested in "big oil" and will do anything to keep those interests safe; including saying that global warming is a myth, etc. etc. The only people I've ever heard refer to global warming as a myth were either uneducated or republican.

just check how many questions have been here in only a short time .

nothing is more popular in the Cosmos right now than Global warming ,
even other planets are getting into it .

you c an safely say its the hottest invention since sliced bread

Millions of animals dying .even hundreds if not thousands of people ,(if we count northern China )

Watershortage ,Croploss,Desertification,Rising food prices ,etc

The God who invented and patented this must be over the Moon and laughing all the way to cloud nine.

You ask two questions. Is it made up?
The other is did man do it? The first answer: No
The second knowone knows for sure it appears to be a cycle
of the earth caused by the Sun's cycles. That we cannot control. The next cycle may be an ice age, if so maybe we
should heat it up more now before it gets here.

Global warming IS SOOOOOOOOO real. It's not made up. Have u noticed that the winters have been colder and the summers have been hotter? I live in CO, and the winters/summers are more extreme! You should really read Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. It is a very good book!

You are right Global warming is a result of HUMAN way of life and in order for it to change we must all change our lifestyle.
Consider this smoking cigarettes is pollution. driving fuel transports is pollution using spray cans eg hair spray is pollution and yet we all do one or more of these things. there are people out there who are trying to build a better life for us all one website that comes to mind is www.freewebs.com/planet4
I hope this has some how helped you and wish you a nice day

Personally I'm for worldwide cooling the "truths" of the 70's situated at the innovative technological know-how of the day. So in reply for your query supply it twenty years and it is going to be worldwide shrinking or any other ridiculous inspiration.

I don't believe Global Warming was "made up", but there are several reasons or ways it could have been. It could have been something as simple as save-the-world tree huggers to add a hype to it all. Another possibility is that it began as something small as a scientist saying that the tempurature has increased over hte years and it being over exaggerated. I do doubt it was made up. Just over exaggerated over time.
