There's nothing in vanilla ice cream that would harm a dog. It's a lot of calories and sugar, so I wouldn't make it a regular meal. Also, some dogs don't do too well on dairy products, same as some people.

Chocolate, however, is a different story. Some of the theobromines in chocolate can be harmful, even fatal to dogs in large quantities. Best bet is to keep all chocolate away from dogs, so they don't develop a taste for it.

It's not a great idea. It's the fat content in the dairy products that lead to stomach and digestion issues. If it's a lowfat ice cream product, your dog will have an easier time digesting it. I would suggest a tiny bit, like licking out the bowl or 1 small scoop when you're done with it, but not a full serving. Then you'd have an upset tummy or two on your hands,

My dogs always get a tiny bit of Vanilla ice cream on birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving and when they have their shots. As long as it's not much and not an every day thing it's just fine.

here is a recipe you may want to try at least you know what you are giving your pet then you don't have to worry about making your pup sick

Frosty Paws Dog Ice Cream Recipe
32 oz. plain yogurt
1 mashed banana
2 T p'nut butter
2 T honey

It’s true dairy products aren’t good for dogs, but yogurt contains much less lactase than regular milk and the live cultures are great for your dog’s digestive system. This dog ice cream recipe is delicious and good for your pet!

1. Mix all these ingredients in your blender, then dump into ice cube trays, paper cups, or even a kong toy to freeze and serve.

2. If you want to go all out for your mutt you can freeze these homemade frosty paws just like you would homemade ice cream. A salt-less automatic ice cream maker makes this as easy as using any other appliance in your home and the frosty paws will be ready to serve in 10 minutes.

For the ultimate treat, appropriate for desert at a doggy birthday party, follow steps one and two, then take the mostly frozen dog ice cream product of number two and spread it 1” to 1½” thick on wax paper. Freeze for five minutes and thenremove dog ice cream from freezer. Next, use a paw shaped cookie cutter to cut a paw shaped “frosty paws”, remove ice cream around edges, and return paw shapes to the freezer to freeze solid.

OurPet's Ice Pudding "Vanilla"

Healthy & Tasty. The Ice Pudding treat is a creamy treat, freeze the cups to create a smooth and delicious ice-cream alternative, or spoon some as a topping over your dog's dry food for a tasty addition.
or in any grocery store

Dogs can eat vanilla ice cream as long as there is no chocolate in between

Jeez, all these people are pretty uptight. Everyting in moderation! A few licks of ice cream won't hurt any dog, and it makes both of you feel good. Of course don't make a daily habit of it, but once in a while? Sure. My dog loves to lick the bowl clean! For more of a regular treat, try "Frosty Paws" doggie ice cream.... my lab loves it.

I don't think it will hurt him if you give him a little bit, just don't give him any choc. of any kind. if you give him ice cream too many times, his gift for the next birthday will be a membership to the gym. My Grandmother used to give her dog ice cream every night at 10:00. that dog put on so much weight, she could hardly get around. but a little won't hurt.
tell Smokie I said HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!

Your dogs would love the ice cream... however dogs are lactose in tolerate and you may find that your dog will have the runs for the next couple of days or may even vomit if they aren't used to it. I promise that won't stop them going back for more!!!

My dog loves cheese and I have to be careful I only give him a little bit otherwise he over indulges.

Whoever stated dogs cant have yogurt , dogs can eat yogurt. One little lick of the bowl wont hurt just dont give them any chocolate well real chocolate --the baking chocolate because it contains cocoa which is very toxic for dogs. One little m&m wont hurt but not more than that. And those that say pup ice cream great idea I have seen it in like a strawberry flavor for the pups.

Well, you can have the ice cream but your dogs cant. Even though it might be sugar free you do'nt want to take a chance. You don't want to Kill your dog do you? By giving them ice cream could either make them seiriously ill or kill him/her. just give him/her their favorite treat and they will be satisfied.
