I am interested in buying a speaker system but not sure what. I want good, clear sound with nice bass as well. I am planning on buying the speaker system and receiver separate. I want to spend less than $1000 Any suggestions on some floor speakers, surround, and subwoofer to take care of the job? Best system for the price?

most go with 4
Yamaha make excelent products
make sure the amplifier you buy supports the amount of speakers you want.
I would go into a a sound store or a place like best buy and find someone who knows what thier talking about and ask them what they recommend.
most suround sound packages sound good.

sorry about the bad spelling/grammer/rambleing

Hi jake.
Speakers are the most difficult items to choose because they all contribute their own coloration to the sound you hear.Basically they can be divided into 3 categories .Speakers with a rather bright sound that with excessive treble. Those that have a forward midrange giving a "warm "type of sound, and last ,speakers that have a neutral sound with no real emphasis on the frequency range .We tend to say these are low coloration speakers.

Something to consider before buying you speakers is the type of room you are going to put your speakers in. This is an area that some people forget to take into consideration. The dimensions, construction and furnishings will play a large part in the quality of the sound you hear. Also, when you audition speakers in the dealers' showroom they are going to sound different back home .No two rooms are acoustically the same.

KEFloudspeakers from the U.K. are very good speakers that are fairly neutral and easy to listen to .so i will suggest a set you may consider.Of course there are many more in that catagory but at least it will give you something to work at. Here is the list which should sound very good :It comes to about $1,000 without a subwoofer.but if you shop around you should get the lot for around$1000.You can match up your own system with other individual items of the speaker brand you decide on..The sub. that is popular is made by Velodyne.Tthe one below is under $200 and is a good buy I hope i have given you some ideas to help you to decide .
Cheers

Check out this forum for HTIB alternatives:

Do not buy Bose or a HTIB (home theater in a box).

At your price range, quality floor speakers and a powerfull amp to drive them are not an option. You're better of pairing 5 bookshelfs with a decent to great subwoofer.

First, you'll need a receiver. This site sells quality Marantz, that are refurbished with a full warranty. I would suggest the sr4600 ($260ish) or higher. Marantz is high-end, you won't see them at Best Buy or Circuit City.

Pair one of those Marantz receivers with this 5.1 speaker system from av123.com. This is an internet only company so you completely bypass the middle man (BestBuy, CircuitCity, etc.). You get a much better speaker for the dollar. This system is regarded as the best entry level system for less than $1,000. They look great too, with real wood veneer (unheard of at this price range).

If you can spend more, pair a Marantz receiver with 5 of these Ascend bookshelfs (also internet only):

and an internet only subwoofer from HSU or SVS:

Either of those systems are probably the best bang for the buck.

Your budget is still a little low for a really nice tower and sub amp combo but you may try this: Onkyo HT-S990THX

It is a great little system for the price. Make sure you use high quality interconnects for best results.

For $1k, you probably better off buying a good HTIB system.
