You could start searching for college scholarships, but college grants only happen in your senior year of high school for the upcoming fall semester or quarter. There are other things that you can do right now to increase the financial aid or help you will receive in the future. I will list the free sources to find money for college.

First, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Second, states do offer grant and scholarships for students with excellent grades. Search Google.com and Yahoo.com for these grants and scholarships with your state's name. I recommend finding out now what the minimum qualifications to receive one are now.

Third, approach your high school guidance office in your junior and senior years. They have a list of local scholarships that you could apply for consideration.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

To be eligible for aid, the FAFSA says you must have graduated from high school prior to your regular admission to a college. For sure as a freshmen, you will not be eligible for a grant.

If you are looking for ways to earn college credit while still in highschool that will be cost effective, have you considered the CLEP? You can take CLEP exams for about $75 per exam. The credits are completely transferrable and you will not believe how easy it is to earn 12-15 credit hours without ever stepping foot in a classroom. For more information, please visit, www.clep.org

No, it is too early to request any college grants or aids, you have to be at least a junior or a senior, before those grants are official.
